View Full Version : Adding a Second Profile?

Myself and a friend co-run a vb board where we're going to host an rpg in one of the forums. We'd like to incorporate users' character profiles into the board. I thought I could do this so that there would be a link next to 'Profile' in a users' post that takes you to their characters' profile, and in the user cp, a link that allows you to edit this second profile. I considered attaching custom fields to the regular profile, but thought this would be confusing to new members when they were registering.

I managed to add the link in the user cp, and it takes the user to the new profile page, but I run into two problems: since I'm not a master PHP coder, I used most of "modify profile" and "update profile" in member.php and made "modify character" and "update character". They worked, but they're still apparently are coming up with some required fields, so that when I try to save my information in the second profile, it says "Please check to see that you have filled out all required information". I took out the pieces of coding that pointed to error messages or to required fields, but it's still happening.

My second problem is that I could not find the place anywhere to add another link between 'profile' and 'pm' in the bottom section of a user's post. I tried adding it in the postbit template, but nothing happened.

Can anyone provide some tips on this? Is there another thread out there in the forums about adding a second profile? I'm sorry if this is in the wrong section. Is there an easier way to accomplish this? I've gotten halfway there myself, but gotten stuck on those two points. Any help would be greatly appreciated. :)

Ok, I worked on this second profile more, and it's all in running order except for one problem: when I enter date into this second profile, and then submit to save it, it comes up again blank when I go back to edit it again. What do I have to do to get it to stay in the fields for when I go back to edit again? Anyone have any tips?

Did you ever get this working?

I would love to see how you did it... sounds very cool.
