We're setting up three separate forums for one community - there are various reasons we're doing it this way, and we can't be talked out of it. :) However, we would love to be able to make our users register only once, and then be able to access and post on all 3 forums, and create just one user profile and one signature. If all their post counts and titles can be combined into one database, so much the better (but it's not necessary)..
Any thoughts? Anything exist yet? Anything in the pipeline?

Why not use three different "sub-forums"? That way you will get everything you ask for, one registration, one post count etc.
You can add forums from the Control Panel, "Forums & Moderators", "add". You can also seperately control the access to each fourm if you wish.

Because it's too unweildly - right now, we're on EZBoards, at:
http://pub79.ezboard.com/bschnooglethebestofharrypotterfanfiction and http://pub39.ezboard.com/bfictionalley (the fanfic review boards) and our Message Boards at http://pub51.ezboard.com/bhpparadise
If we were to combine them into one forum, we'd lose the organizational structure that we already have in place - it's going to be enough of a shock for the users to move to a new board!

Heh, sorry, I misunderstood, thought you were planning to set up three forums, didn't realize you already had them up running ;)
Well, then I am afraid I can't help you out.
