Well this is more of a DHTML or Javascript that could be imported into the vBulletin code I suppose...I know that can do this with UBB, as one of the boards I'm a member on uses UBB and it has this hack or w/e in it. In the top center of your forum, between the "Members, threads, posts, and welcome to our newest member" and the "Welcome back [name], view new posts, time now, etc". In between those, would it be possible to make a script that scrolls down (kind of like the credits at the end of a movie..best way to explain it, how it goes down or up or w/e, instead of side to side) and it only goes for a few inches or w/e...And it says "Welcome to our newest member" and then the member's name pops up with a link to his/her profile. It also scrolls other stuff like announcements, or a link or somethin to FAQ..just somethin...I hope this makes sense, I don't really know how to explain it...:)

If you're catering almost exclusively to Windows IE users, it's easy.

<marquee behavior=scroll direction=up scrollamount=1 height=60>
<p><center><br><b> This Text Goes Up From Down <br>
</marquee>

We have that set up as a custom BB code...

It works in IE for Mac, but looks bad.

It ONLY works in IE though... it's a proprietary tag.

If someone can find a good DHTML/JS scroller that works sideways and in Nutscrape, I'd love to have it.
