User info page hack

Here is my idea.

This hack would allow people to update a lot of information into customizable fields. In my case I have an automotive site so they would be able to upload details of their vehicles and multiple photos as well.

I found this link from Susan on the vB site, http://www.interlogy.com/products/pmpre/index.html

This does what I want, but I think it would be much better if it were done with MySql and had the same look and feel as the vB board.

What do you guys think? Is this doable? Anyone want to give it a shot?

For all text-based information of this kind, you can simply make more User Profile Fields in your Admin Panel.

For uploadable pictures that are meant for user profile pages, you'll need a hack though.

You _can_, however, do something different that doesn't require hacking: make a forum where users can only post threads, no replies, and have them attach images there (upload from HD) - doesn't work as well as this would, but it IS searchable (*) and it Does allow each user to have their own profile image(s).

Just set user permissions so that they can post new threads, reply to their own threads, but not reply to other's.

It's not as good as what you seem to have in mind, I'm sure, but at least it doesn't require you to implement any hacks or anything. :)

That's a good idea about the forum, but it just won't look as integrated as a single web page with all the data and photos in one place.

How about this? Is there anyway to allow more than one attachement per thread?

Some of my users have also asked why they can't add attachements when they go to edit a thread. The way it's set up you can only make one attachement per post and it has to be at the time of the original post.
