Hi
If vBulletin 5 is so good, why is the official mod site running on vB3?
Just confused
What on earth gave you the idea that vb5 was any good?

Sorry I tried to quote you reply and got this error (when i clicked quote button lol)
TypeError: sizeof(): Argument #1 ($value) must be of type Countable|array, bool given in ..../newreply.php on line 902
But anyway I thought it was buggy asf when it released over 10 years ago, but since then its alot more stable now and performance is better?
Yeah, they did maintenance on the site a month or so back and broke lots of stuff; I'm not holding out much hope of them fixing something as trivial as quote, the remember me login has been broken for years.
Just look at how lively the addon section is here and then look at one of the competitor's sites; an active developer community is an excellent indicator of if the product is any good or not.

so vBulletin is basically abandoned?
so vBulletin is basically abandoned?
I know I wouldn't invest any time or money into it.

A once thriving community on .org is more like a ghost town these days. You can count on one hand how many of us swing by from time to time. VB5 started as a disaster. As of late while I have not kept up with it, looks to be somewhat viable as a "forum". If the forum itself lacks some ability, you will be hard pressed to find a developer or addons. The days of VB3 or VB4 are long gone where you could find addons or developers to assist you in your quest.
It surprised me that many years later they still have not vested any time or finances into any 3rd party support which might be one of the reasons for VB decay from the limelight.
And yes, there are posting/quoting bugs that have gone unfixed, which is yet another indication of their lack of caring for 3rd party support. There are even areas that I once was able to get to that I am seemingly blocked, and requests have gone unanswered for years to regain access.

I made the mistake of upgrading to 5.74 no idea why when something is working fine they have to change the names of things and how it works. Our members hate it. Lots of bugs
Question is what is a better one to go with these days? I have hear of zenfor or something like that.
Our guys really miss the Shoutbox, so that is a definite must have.
Thanks :)

I would have stayed on 4.2.5 another couple years but was tired of not being able to upgrade other components on the server because they weren't compatible with the older MySQL/MariaDB version and PHP5.6 used by VB.
So far, I'm not unhappy with the decision.
Some of the admin functions got a lot more complicated, but I do appreciate having full support now for PayPal recurring payments, which had changed on PayPal's side wasn't working with our VB4.2.5 installation anymore.
The bigger plus is we didn't lose 20 years of usernames and passwords. Migrating to XF or SMF would have been a lot more disruptive to our members.
