Dears forums owners

I want to know your reasons to stuck at vB4 till now and not go to vB5, and if there are important plugins that you need in your site most than any thing, what are they?

Interesting to read your comments.

Sincerely Yours.

I have one forum that continues to use vBulletin 4.x for this reason. It has existed in its current form since 2010 and its members are not adaptable to change. It utilizes several modifications and add-ons that members would consider an essential part of the forums.

For the record I do not. Modifications and add ons are gadgets that are unnecessary to the operation of a forum. It is the content that is important. But potentially losing thousands of users over that argument is not worth the risk.

For me the list of products that if I get for vB5 I will go to it directly very long list, but the main ones are ..
1- vBExperience
2- Easy Forms
3- Tournaments, Ladders & Leagues Manager
4- iReviews (vbcover.com)

I hope there would be someone willing to develop and release for the community at least one of these. Seems hard enough these time when social network beats forum.

vBexperience is massively bloated and resource intensive. I had hoped someone might develop a vBulletin 5 replacement rewards system but it's such an involved process that if someone did it wouldn't be free.

The other items would be fairly easy to develop using the API.

vB 4 has good features and I am using it, also it works as well for me, more things are changed on my forum and if I move to vB5, they will not run on this platform.

Specially, I am hoping vB4 will support better with PHP 7.x

as 7.2 is the last php 4.x will support we are forced to upgrade someday -
even this forum still runs on 3.x, just to put it in perspective

If you really "need" the modifications you listed earlier in this thread you should talk to Glenn Vergara or Delicious about coding them for vBulletin 5. That might help you make your decision.

I found it so much better to just move from VB4 onto XenForo 2.1, never looked back along with a host of other VB users.....

I can't even confirm there's a good reason to run vBulletin 4 on PHP 7.3

It runs perfectly well on PHP 7.1

IPF/IBV/IPS etc. screwed vbulletin including there own entire domination on Internet..
Forums Era is over, Invision Power Board GUYs are culprit !!!!!!!For same.

A mere ego from a developer, screwed millions of sites..
Buyers, Who worked there way hard for bread and butter !!!!!!!!!!!!!

VBulletin 5, is mere a conception of what actually, vbulletin deserved..
Then formation of other scripts from womb of vbulletin. !!!!!!

I own all forum software scripts, but nothing works best then vbulletin 4 so far till day !!!!!

Thanks to great guys, still holding the community..

I think vB 3.x is much easier to customize than vB4. In that sense, it works best.

I have uploaded the diffs for vBulletin 4.2.5 and PHP 7.3.

In addition to my adjustments, I have the following changes:

includes/init.php
// $new_datastore_fetch does not require single quotes
$new_datastore_fetch = $datastore_fetch = array();

($hook = vBulletinHook::fetch_hook('init_startup')) ? eval($hook) : false;replace with:

// $new_datastore_fetch does not require single quotes
$new_datastore_fetch = $datastore_fetch = array();

if(!defined('THIS_SCRIPT')) /* PHP 7.2 FIX */
define('THIS_SCRIPT', 'THIS_SCRIPT');

($hook = vBulletinHook::fetch_hook('init_startup')) ? eval($hook) : false;

Attention: PHP 7.0 is the minimum by this change

My 4.2.5 forum does every thing I need it to do. No compelling real to spend the money to change. When there is a compelling reason, then I'll change.

This site runs on a lot of custom modifications. It will cost too much time (=money) to convert it to vBulletin 5.

My site has a lot of content on a VaultWiki installation. I'm not following them to Xenforo, but If I get vBulletin running on PHP 7.3 someday Ill stay.

After that? Who knows?

My vb 4.2.5 works fine with PHP 7.4 so far.

VB5 is what I would say as being unobtainable for my site due to its nature and level of customization would be cost prohibitive to attempt a migration.

I have the "unofficial" 4.2.6 and have yet to install it as the source it comes from is questionable to where I question if it has any external calls that might be implanted and compromise the security of the system.

I will make the changes outlined in the diff as they are from a much more reliable source in MHO.

Are there any templates wth in VB 4.2.5 that would also require "touching"?

I don’t like the way it looks. I prefer the traditional look of vb forums specifically vb3 and 4. VB5 looks too much like Xenforo which I don’t like.
