View Full Version : Remove Location display if author has no location

In the author info area to the left of every post, it tells you the author's location. But some people do not enter a location. When someone does not enter a location into his/her profile, you still see the line that says "Location: ", only there's nothing there. I think it would look better to not have that at all. So I've written this very simple little hack that makes it so that line only appears if the person has a location in his/her profile. With this hack, there won't even be a blank line. :)

You can see an example here (http://forums.jjr512.com/showthread.php?postid=261017#post261017). Note that this member of my board, s4, has no location specified, and see how it looks. Compare to the post right above his.

Nice hack man! I love all these mini-hacks that just clean up the look of the forums and make them look better! :)

Great work - it looks so bad when there's just "location" there :)

I just installed this hack, I'll admit I'm going through finding the smaller hacks to start with. ;)

Anyway, I copied and pasted, double checked, with back through and I can't see an error. However, I don't have the location showing up on my site now. :(

I'm at www.simpsonsboard.com. Can someone give me a hand?

Well, right now, your link immediately shows this:
Parse error: parse error in /home/simpson/public_html/admin/functions.php on line 811

Fatal error: Call to undefined function: vbsetcookie() in /home/simpson/public_html/admin/sessions.php on line 217
I've looked at my own functions.php and line 811 and the stuff around it doesn't seem to have anything to do with what my hack does, so I don't know if this is the problem you mentioned, or a different problem. Did this start happening right when you installed my hack, or is this a separate problem?

Okay, just a quick update, I don't want to be nailed for spamming....

The board is back up and running. I have to go back and make sure the hack is still installed. Once I've done that, I'll pm you directly. Thanks again for your help and patience.

Edited to say: Since it was done so quick, I'll just say that I've rechecked everything and I"m still not getting the location to show up. I'm at www.simpsonsboard.com. :)
