View Full Version : Question about 3.8.3

1.) I have a vBulletin 3.8.3 and sometimes it has issues when editing. After saving it (post) it will appear blank. I add the copy/paste in again and then it will take. Sometimes the sentences will have too many gaps in between and I will fix, re-save, then it's fine.

Is there a way to reload 3.8.3 without losing all my posts? I have over 2,600 articles for educating the masses on the dangers of the current version of globalization.

2.) Would it be better to upgrade to a V5 version? No one else posts, it's simply a human news/data aggregator for specific global topics.

If I upgrade to V5 will I lose any articles or settings? No special add-ons have been placed. It's a raw 3.8.3

Thanks for any input.

1. What do you mean by reload? It's possible that it's a server issue and not related to your database or current files.
2. It -should- migrate over all the articles. As for the settings, some of them will probably reset or not copy over since vBulletin 5 is different in many ways compared to vBulletin 3.

1.) By "reload" I mean somehow reload the 3.8.3 as if uploading a fresh 3.8.3 and keeping the posts too. Probably impossible.

It probably is a server issue. I'll have to look into that. Do you have any recommendations as far as the "posting issue" goes I mentioned previously... specific area to look in?

2.) I probably won't upgrade to V5 due to me concerned about losing any articles/data that has been built up over time. I am attached to the project and 3.8.3 serves me well for what it's used for.

Thanks for your response! Appreciated!

Even if you do plan it at some point, you can always first upgrade to vBulletin 4/5 on a test server or local installation so you can see how it handles the upgrade. From there you can decide whether or not you want to do the same thing to your live forum.
