Someone brought this up in another thread, and this is what I have so far.
I think I'm done with the admin interface of it, so now it's only the getfile.php file to code, and that's it.

Anyway, I got some screen shots for you. :)
They're rather big, so I don't want to attach them.

Maybe adding permissions to the downloads, so that a specific usergroup can download the files instead of everyone or ppl that has more then 100 posts can download the files. :pleased:

Yeah... either file groups (so that multiple usergroups can download) AND/OR add a useroption setting their individual file permissions.

We have 7 different "normal" usergroups on our board... being able to only set one per file is a problem.

Maybe a cross-referenced system akin to accessmasks?

Have several different file groups to assign files to... so that one file is part of say, 3 groups...

Then have each user have anther set of file access masks... and set which groups they can access.

If file 1 is part of groups A B and C... and User Chen has permission to download from Group B, he can get the file.

Have both File Permission Groups where you can set broad groups for permissions (Group 1 can download from Files A, E F and G... Group 2 can DL from A C and D, etc) and individual overrides... so someone can be in Group 1, but still DL class B files.

Am i making sense here?

What I would like to see (If its not implemented yet) is the ability to upload the files (to the server the forum is on) and have the option to give mods the ability to create a downloadable file.

Ok, so (I think) I got the uploading feature done, although I can't be sure, as I can't upload on my local server.
I'm also done with the nested file groups stuff, and also added mass-move/prune features.
And also the main script that gets the files is done, e.g filemanager.php?s=&action=getfile&fileid=1.

Now just the permissions... *sigh*

Each usergroup have their global setting, regarding viewing file lists and downloading files.

You are able to specify custom permissions for each usergroup per each file group.

Basically the same way forum permission works. :)

I was wondering if you could set it up so that member permissions can also go upwards, so that only mods and above for instance can download something. or only users of ** posts can download something. If you have these abilities available to sort out in the groups, then I apologise. I was also wondering if you could make it possible to be able to select multiple user groups.

wonderful idea, great hack, and sorry if I miss any previous posts, but can I upload file to my vB from different location? Files downloading don't have to be the vB site.

And btw, how is project going? Expect before of after christmas?

I know there is an option to upload file to my forums, but my question was Will I be able to use the files outside my domain (for example domain2) but still restricted for my members in domain 1 only.

Great to heare it's coming before x-mas, considering the x-max gift for all of us :).

Ive been working on a new system for the forum permission page, which really gets out of hand if you have lots of forums/lots of usergroups to change...

This hack looks extremely promising.

Here is a feature request - the details of which are based more on the final page display of the attachments.

It would be nice to have the ability to add custom fields (including column headings) associateed with the attachment file.

An example would be to output the attachments in a table with custom columns ie. "Date Released:", "platform:", "Version:", "Details:" - such as the ability to load a javascript window containing release notes etc.

A quick set of questions though, which I wasn't able to deduct from any of this: how will the downloadable files appear, exactly, on the forum? where? And can the list of files be sorted in groups? And finally, can they be listed on non-vb pages?

Y'see, this hack would be a great extension to my wallpaper page. I could upload the (links to the) wallpapers* and have them listed somewhere on the forum, but since I deliver all my wallpapers in 5 resolutions (640x480 to 1280x960) I'd really like to be able to group them by resolution, and only make one group appear (so that the last 5 files listed won't be just one wallpaper in 5 reso's, but the last 5 wallpapers in one reso).


* = My current set of wallpapers is 23 MB large, 27 different wallpapers in 5 reso's. Adding 23 MB to my forum's database just to get one advantage (having people register before they can download the files) is just not worth it, to me.
