play small .wav or mp3 on pm popup

I would like my users to hear a small wav or mp3 that says "new private message" I made the wav and an mp3 but cant get it coded in . Could someone supply me with the code needed to play the sound on a pm popup?

I think you need to embed the wav or mp3 in the proper template.
