This is a pretty coool hack that me and my friend made.
What is make people login or register to download a file from your site:

ex: http://www.youforum.com/download.php?file=http://www.download.com/file.zip

When you click that it wil send you tto a login page were you use your *** login info to download the file ot sign up. After you are logged in it will store cookies so you wont have to login.

WORKS WITH ALL vBulletin VERSIONS

I will have a working preview up soon!

Intresting, but does it have to look like that. I like it but I would rather have it look like the normal not logged in type screen. Very nice though.. ;)

GameZilla

So if i install this hack login.html will look like the default or like the page you linked to?

JTMON

You can accomplish this already with no hack. Just go into your admin CP and edit the permissions for unregistered/ users not logged in and set download attachments to no.

isn't this useless?

if you put the file name as http://www.youforum.com/download.php? file=http://www.download.com/file.zip

You are exposing the url and people can see which file they are trying to download!

JTMON
11-12-2001, 04:59 AM
Well normal attachments are stored in the database so unless you have permissions you can't d/l them

GameZilla
11-12-2001, 05:14 AM
well what i am doing is adding some other features to it so wait up

Gotcha but then isn't this:[if you put the file name as http://www.youforum.com/download.php? file=http://www.download.com/file.zip
a problem or are you working on it?

GameZilla
11-12-2001, 05:19 AM

JTMON

Why don't you store the path in the database and just use the id to download? Like download.php?id=2543

SgtSling

This would not work for me at all. i couldnt get past the login screen to download the file..

you have 2 choices to correct this problem:

(1) put the files on a folder outside the web "not accessible unless you call it from the php file"

(2) Integrate D-Man from http://www.accountbiller.com with vB

can someone please pull this off?? Intergrating site file downloads with vB's user database would be a dream come true, if done properly!...especially if they could also be remotely hosted files

Its not that easy to get around it when the link is in a pop-up.

Its still pretty easy... All you have to do, is get the url of the actual pop-up page..... witch can be done by viewing the source of the page that spawns the popup... :p

It's very easy, all you need to do is click right button, then click enter, then click right button again real fast. :)

Justice, I have a picture of how the Admin CP will look like already.
You will be able to manage links from it, add links, remove links, and all you need to link to will be download.php?s=&fileid=x. :)

you can also just click the left button anywhere in the window and then press the menu key by the right ctrl button.

Easy as pie! because your not using the right mouse button at all - the protection doesnt even come into it.

Here is what you do to do it good. First off...why would you want to attach files...that slows down the database considerably if you have a lot of files and file sizes are big.

anyway.

Step 1

download your default style

Step 2

re-upload it as a new style and re-name it "Files"

Step 3

Now that you have a whole new set of templates, open up the "forum_display" template in the "Files" set and edit all the stuff out and put in html for a files page. Save it.

Step 4

create a new forum in your list of forums called "Files" and apply it (make it visible)

Step 5

go to the new forum link on your main forum page and right click on the link to that forum and save it to notepad or something.

Step 6

Now go back into "Forums and Moderators" and click "Modify" and edit the new forum "Files"....make it not appear now and be sure to edit permissions for the forum to allow or disallow whatever usergroup you feel right. You can even make it a private forum. Make the style be "Files" and make it "Overide users custom settings" and "Not user selectable"

Step 7

Make a link to the forum "Files" somewhere on your site. and now you have an integrated files page on your forum that utilizes the login process if you choose.

Now that you have integrated a files page in your forum you now need to get a file called "downloader.cgi" and it is an anti-leech script that stops any linking to files from anywhere that you do not specify. It is very easy to set up and works great and even promotes you to organize your files in a good manner.

you put the code on every link to a file and the script decides whether or not you have come from the right plcae and you can make it re-direct to a custom page if they have not.

Done.

This works very good for me but like it has already been said.....nothing will stop them from posting anything elsewhere....this only preserves you bandwidth and allows you do either make it private and decide who gets in and who doesn't or can be set just for members only.....all in how you set the permissions.

I am very new to php and this is an okay solution to integration issues until I get better and can make a custom php page that has all the "requires" and "else's" to be able to integrate without a whole nother set of templates.

anyway...this works great and can be used to integrate many other kinds of things into your forum.

Have fun

Is this what you are getting at?

My site is hosted on its own domain (blah.com), as well as my forums on another (blahforums.com). When you try to access the directory where my files are at /files (blah.com/files) it asks you for a a login and password. It does this check to the forums then proceeds. If not, you get no file. I also have a private members section where it does the same but also checks to see if they have a flag that I have issued them. Without this flag, no private file. This is done with .htaccess and the sql database of the forums.

Well I know why there are errors...-__-

because you have to edit the downlaod.php

I found this script for download at php.resourceindex
Its similar atleast.

I am gonna make my own hack similar, but better ;) To this, now how would I go about making that

http://yourdomain.com/download.php?file=download12312 ?

95% of people on the internet have never touched their right button on a webpage. ;) And 95% haven't got a clue. :) The 5% I don't care if they register. ;)

Nothing ticks me off more than people who put these "Right Button Disabled" things on their websites. I use the right button to navigate sights (e.g. Back | Forward | etc.) almost exclusively.

I don't care how good a site is (or thinks it is) -- if I click the right button and get a "Menu Disabled!" pop-up, I'm never coming back. It's utterly pointless, and just limits the user's functionality. Anybody who really wants to look at the site's code can still do it in a variety of ways.

It really is very, very poor design to disable the right-button.

I have to agree with you on that one ;)
I usually ditch sites using that feature upon finding it.

It is too easy to get around no right clicking.

For images: just right click (and hold down the mouse button) on a non image and drag it to the image. simple, eh?

You use your right mouse button to 'freely browse' within a 200 pixel popup where there's a single link to download a file?

Yeah you must have extra intelligence for this stuff, because I can't work that one out.

Usually, a properly coded hack that uses external files, such as this, which is a download script, would somehow encrypt the file so that the user has no idea where it is.

And yes, firefly will achieve that.

Zilla. Simply put, you are a fool. This is the 5th script you have made with stolen code from Free scripts under the GNU (which isn't really bad, it's just the fact he's stealing the code, not modifying it).

Also, your approach with the "no right click" script is pretty faulty, considering there are numerous ways to get around it. And hiding it in a popup? HELLO?!?!? f11 anyone?

Edit : I would close this thread, useless and pointless hacks should be not allowed, and I think someone with proper coding experience, not this 13 year old code phreaker, should work up a hack to work against this! It's possible. It IS!
