Hello,
I haven't found anywhere to download the smilies I'd like for our forums so I'd like to find the images I want and create my own. Is there a particular size and/or format they need to be to work with vB5?
Also, it seems that regardless of the size of the font the smilies always display the same small size. Are there settings to allow the user to post larger smilies/emoticons?
Help Appreciated!

There's not a setting for changing the size of smilies., however, if you upload larger smilies, those will show larger. Smilies are meant to be small so they don't obstruct the flow of text too much but you can make them any size you want depending on the upload size.

Those are cool, thanks! Although I don't know how to view them so that I can see the animation... does vB5.2 allow animated smilies?
The ones I really want though are the ones from facebook messenger - "snoopy's moods". I've been able to find the images online but in in smilie format. So from what people are saying I can edit them and just upload them in admin cp and they'll work? I'll try that.
I'm also wondering, how many smilies will vB5 allow in the menu? Surely I can't have that many? Also, does the vB5 smilie menu allow for sub-menus with different smilie theme sets, like facebook messenger?
Thanks very much for the replies.

OK I've managed to create and upload some emoticons - the question now: The background in the posting field is a light blue and the background of my emoticons is white - how can I make the default background of the posting field white so that the borders of the emoticon aren't obvious to the viewer? see attached screenshot.

I recommend only using smileys with transparent backgrounds, so you won't have to worry about matching backgrounds...you may decide to use other styles in the future, and you won't want to be restricted to one postbit background color. :)

Thanks guys - good suggestion - except that I don't know where to find the snoopy emoticon set with a transparent background... I just found the images online and cut them out, saved to gif. I don't know how to change the background of the images to transparent.
Can the default posting field just be set to white in vB 5.2?

As above... Find your images and edit them. Create your own smilies as PNG or GIF format with transparent backgrounds.
It might require that you use Photoshop or equivalent to edit and build them. It can handle animated images too..
