Folder only for users logged in

How do I setup a folder that has files that can be only downloaded/viewed by logged in users. Do I do something in htaccess?

Sorry I am a complete noob to this. :)

Not sure whether or not there is a folder for such things. I thought it was all done in usergroup permissions.
