I am trying to sort out what is producing this, but I don't know where to check

Kind of hard to tell by a screenshot, we need a URL to your mobile theme.

Dave's right, a link would be nice, but if you don't want to publish it, you might want to look at the facebook login button. It looks like it's squeezing the display over to the left to make room for it.

I found the problem! It was the logo. Too wide. Uploaded a narrower one and now it looks OK.
