Users can already decide if they want their email to be displayed publically or not, assuming the owner has decided to allow the public display of email addresses at all. But the owner has sole control over if the email form is used, or if a link to the person's email address is given.
Some people may want to be able to receive email from other members, but not have their email address shown. So they might want to be able to choose to use the email form, rather than showing their address.
So the hack that I'm suggesting is a user-selectable feature so that each user can decide for his/herself if they want to show their email address, use the email form, or not be reachable by email at all.
