I bought the first release, have had nothing but issues since upgrading from VB4. Since 5.1.7 is apparently stable (And supported) can anyone link me to specific instructions to upgrade from 5.1.3 or does this require an entirely new install? I am not interested in losing everything which is what some people are stating has happened on their upgrades, but should not happen.
What I need is specific upgrade instructions, if there are upgrade options rather than re-install options.
No amount of searching has led me to the upgrade option and it is not included in the downloaded files. Only full re-install.
Links?

Before you perform an upgrade, as a precaution, it is important to backup your database just in case there are issues and you need to revert.

Database is backed up already. I went ahead and followed the instructions (Found them directly underneath the install instructions). Then followed them specifically, not a novice to this. Last year I had to wipe out an entire Forum after upgrading to VB5, then had to pay the fee for a pro install, now I attempted to upgrade to 5.1.7 and am back at square one. 35 years in computing and building and running Forums since there have been forums and have never had to deal with anything as bad as vb5. If they would refund all of my money I wouldn't even use it. Again.
Since I have put out all of this money I suppose after nearly two years maybe I can actually get a forum running with 5 equal to all the the free software forums I run or have run.
Specific to the instructions, the upload folder contents have been uploaded to the root directory and all folders overwritten.
The URL is www.snugjarriel.com
With upgrade.php or install.php (Neither works) I get "Critical error, please check back in 24 hours".
The only way to access anything is to delete the core/install folder.
Reloading core/install changes nothing.
What am I missing?
Thanks

Ok, now another issue. VB5 requires php 4.0. I use ipage and they are at ver 5.3.13. Is there an option to go with a lower version? Or do I need to find another host?

PHP ver 5.4 is the least version you can use. The ipage php specs at http://www.bestwebhostingwat.com/details/ipage-php-specifications-2/ show version 5.4.12 avaialable and that was in 2013. I'd check cPanel and see if you can adjust it to the newer version.

I had spoken with ipage about an hour ago. One thing I was not getting was the tech saying they did not have 5.4 and that they were still on an earlier ver. They have been telling me for a year they would be upgrading. Now it is "Any time". However I have had VB 5.1.13 installed and running since it launched.
Yea, I am going to take a look.
