View Full Version : Moderators Functions - Report Thread Prefix Management
MarkFL
06-10-2015, 09:00 PM
Overview:
This product allows you and your moderating staff to more easily distinguish between report threads (including those generated by my Profile Reporter (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=320100)) that have not yet been resolved from those that have been taken care of by using colored prefixes for the threads.
https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/attachment.php?attachmentid=152633&stc=1&d=1434044564
Upon installation, a new prefixset is created consisting of two thread prefixes...one for unresolved report threads (bright red) and one for resolved report threads (darker green with strikeout text). These prefixes will only be available in the forum you have designated for report threads, and in the forum you have designated for auto-reported posts if you have "MarkFL: Automated Post Reporter" installed and active. If you uninstall the product, then the prefixset is removed from your database.
When a post is initially reported, the unresolved prefix is auto-added to the report thread. Then when someone on your staff (those with access to the report threads and with moderating privileges) posts to say what they have done to resolve the issue, they will find a checkbox in the "Moderation Tools" portion of the "Additional Options" block on the posting form for actions to be taken after submitting their message that will allow them to mark the report as resolved.
https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/attachment.php?attachmentid=152634&stc=1&d=1434044564
If a report thread has been previously marked as resolved, but another staff member is posting to add additional information and wishes to revert the thread back to an unresolved status, they will find that the added checkbox will mark the thread as unresolved.
https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/attachment.php?attachmentid=152636&stc=1&d=1434044943
In addition, an item has been added to the "Thread Tools" menu to allow your staff to change the status of reports without having to post.
https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/attachment.php?attachmentid=154170&stc=1&d=1454816159
You have the option to record the actions taken by this product in the moderator log. You can choose to record all actions, or just when the prefix is changed without posting, or not at all.

Just to be clear, I mean the unaltered style that comes with vBulletin right out of the box.
I would need to investigate your site with an admin account because I have no idea what kinds of things you have going on there. If you want, send me the credentials for a temporary admin account via PM so I can see what's what. :)

I had a look through the code to figure out what is going on here, but came short on it.
So, without further adue, a bug report! :D If a global moderator, or administrator reports a post, the thread prefix application of 'not resolved' will not apply or activate. In the reported thread, on our forums - it will not even show the mark as resolved button. However, if a normal user reports the post - the thread prefix will activate like it normally would. This is only applicable to newly generated reports, not preexisting reported threads.
The only thing hooking to report_do_report is this addon. We have nothing else utilizing this hook.

This product is designed to give your staff a convenient means seeing the status of reported post threads and marking them as resolved when the issue reported is taken care of. So, the only users who should see the prefixes are those who can see the reported post threads, which I would think would be your staff.

Is this what you're looking to do: http://i.imgur.com/2HMPvu9.png
If so, then you go to AdminCP -> Forums & Moderators -> Thread Prefixes -> [Select Prefix] Edit Permissions -> Tick/Untick usergroups accordingly.
If you mean something else, please provide screenshots of what you want.

As with the other product, I would have to come take a look at what's going on.
On another note, have you considered updating your site to vB 4.2.3? You will likely have better luck with many products that have been uploaded within the last several years. :)

Thanks... but, we have a stable environment with a membership of retired veterans, average age of 60+, so constantly changing their environment doesn't really add much value.

Updating your vB from 4.1.8 to 4.2.3 wouldn't change things much for the end user, but of course that is your call. :)

Hi Mark, I had a thought on this addon the other day.
On the addon, when a moderator marks a thread as resolved by clicking the button rather replying to said report, would it be possible to force said moderator to reply to the thread with the text of "I have resolved this report." ?
Additionally, if a moderator replies to the thread and clicks the resolve report checkbox, would it also be possible to auto-close the report thread?
Alan_SP
03-11-2016, 02:04 PM
If it needs only to be said text (I solved report, or something in that direction), mod can automatically create said post for moderator who closes it with button. It would make things easier for all.
MarkFL
03-11-2016, 02:28 PM
I have some staff who resolve reports without posting, and what I did was to choose to record the actions in the moderator log, so I can see who does what with reports.
However, an auto-generated post wouldn't add any more information...I actually prefer my staff state exactly what they did to resolve a report, but not all feel inclined to do so.
Elixar
03-11-2016, 05:29 PM
Would it be possible to have it to where a thread once marked as resolved can be moved to a selected forum?
MarkFL
03-11-2016, 06:31 PM
...Additionally, if a moderator replies to the thread and clicks the resolve report checkbox, would it also be possible to auto-close the report thread?
I'm curious why closing a thread that only moderators can see would be of any value, given that moderators can reply to closed threads?
Alan_SP
03-12-2016, 04:27 PM
Moderators can reply to closed threads only where they moderate.
It basically means that most probably they don't have moderator permissions in forum where reports are created.
DBTech has a mod which enables automatically setting all moderators to moderate forum(s) we choose (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=281850 - just not sure if you need pro version or it works in free version).
I just mention this as reminder, nothing else. When we have admin rights, we tend to forget what others can and can't do. I do that sometimes. Too often actually.
MarkFL
03-12-2016, 04:51 PM
Yes, it is easy to forget that not all of our staff has the same privileges we do when it comes to threads.
On the forum I help admin, we have set all staff as moderators of the report forum so they can do what they need to do there. We don't close reports, we simply use the prefix as an indicator of whether the issue has been resolved or not.

This one will work for vB 4.2.x, but I have a version for vB 3.8.x.
I really like this mod! Very handy! The only problem is that when you reply to a post, the bottom part where you can check "resolve" or "unresolve" before submitting post, doesn't work (4.2.5). I have to use the thread tools to do it.
Great job!

I use this on multiple vB 4.2.5 sites without that issue. Perhaps there is a conflict with another product?
