We're looking at options for doing backups, preferably finding a solution that will offer CDP without incurring any downtime. This is for a new site so data volume will initially be low and we can preflight. vB will be running on a VPS at WiredTree.
There are a number of R1Soft-based online backup services now being promoted. Is anyone using one of these or have any other recommendations?

I will +1 r1soft.. works great..
Great support i should recommend for.. (person who configured same for us, is awesome as well)..
Make sure your configuration does not mess up.. (though you mite have to pay a little more for same)..
Best your server configurations/best you get your CDP.. :)

Thanks for the feedback!
Did you use a hosted R1Soft backup service or deploy it on your own system?

I'm using Vb5 but that's irrelevant. I am just using a Cron job to backup database every 6 hours. I keep a download of the entire site though after any file changes.
If you're interested in the Cron script: https://www.christforums.org/forum/entertainment-fun/computers-technology/2638-the-mysql-dump-code-for-cron
You can also email yourself the backups... http://www.backup2mail.com/

I use MySQL command line with the 7zip Command Line tool, so I can setup Batch files to automatically backup my forum database and my entire website directory, and after it backs up both of them, the batch file compresses them with 7zip and stores them on another drive that is setup just for storing backups.
However, my server that is running my web server is Windows Server 2008R2, so Im not sure how you would do it on a Linux box.

Nope, I use mysqldumper, you can make it gzip the backups which saves tons of space. You can have it email you the backup and delete any old backups saving only the newest backups.
