now since only liscence members can download attachments can we now post whole modified files for download that would have got us into trouble with mods on vbulletin.com??

Do you think that the files can't circulate outside the site ?
> Sure it won't be allowed ...
> maybe for older versions ... :p

People can get copies of warez vB even though they were only intended for liscence users.
If we just post whole files then the only people their intended for are liscenced users.
:stupid: just a thought

hum ...
I really want this to be possible, beacause i want to release a full vBuleltin-fr, but i think, if everybody create good hack and distribute as PHP files, thois will help vbulletin's hacking to increase ....
I heard recently on a french full (but realy bad) versions of vB circuling on warez's scene ....
Fu** those unlicensed hackers...

the forum need to be private only for customer for put code of .php here i think.
And maybe it will be useless license is very clear to this point no code of php file must be publicy shown
Scott MacVicar
10-30-2001, 09:12 PM
yeah its not publically shown though, only liscenced users can download attachments on these forums. If they circulate then thats due to one bad apple, its the same with them getting the full vB, one bad apple gives it out.

personnaly i think vb do only 50% for all
people with no license cannot take attachment but can see all post so if someone put all instruction in post without attachment where is difference between us and warez board ?
i pay vbulletin and i see lot of people just take vb in warez and use them easily.

Ya, All this realy does is provent the unliscenced people from getting it directly from here... But for example.. I was on a CGI warez board, and ive already seen a liscenced member of the vb boards promise to upload the new vb(2.2.0) for them all... =/
It sux...

You have some good points PPN..
Scott MacVicar
10-30-2001, 09:46 PM
yeah, warez sucks.
i've even seen people with the same username as me going about and sometimes they even imply that their me. It was on a CGI warez site called cyphonic, they just laughed at me when i told them to delete the user.

Like I can not access to post any thing...I have web+++++s number and pass, but like they will not let me post questions to a hack whats up with that

I like the way it is now, even though its harder. For example, if someone just posts a zip with the new versions of files for their hack, and you've installed other hacks...well, you'd run into a problem. :)

It was only a question darkreaper, i have files which use some vb functions and some code from other vb files but it would break the liscence agreement to upload any of these files.
TheComputerGuy, go to http://www.vbulletin.com/members/vbulletin.org.php and insert your own username as one of the usernames in the list.

Oh, stuff like that, definately. I remember the modaccess hack, that was annoying.
"Go to line 5 in this file, copy until line 58, paste in line 89 on the new file. Now go to line 98 and copy from there down to....."
:)

No, you may not post whole files for one simple reason:
What if you want to apply two hacks to one file? How do you do that if you don't have instructions about which lines to change?
Cheers,
John

> Sure, but it'll be more easy for a BIG hack ...
> Like the vBp for example ....
then, after you can reinstall your little hacks ...
what if the hackers make files to upload, and then go to a certain file and click on install/uninstall :)

vBulletin-france has just made that install file ...

i'm all for making full php files available for download now that it's license only download.
things are going to get to warez. posting full files for users w/a current license isn't going to make it any worse...
just my $.02

thing is... nobody can stop warez.. you can only slow it down and not by much because these hacks will now hop onto other boards where attachments aren't a nono..
that's my $0.01 i can't afford the other one ;)

I like the way it is now, also. You make a good point about installing other hacks, too.

if you posted full files... well it wouldn't be good. i'm not talking about warez because already that's going around and wouldn't make a difference but what about people who have other hacks installed on the board.... they probably don't want to just overwrite the file they have.
I can understand that people might have hacked certain files, etcetc..
Anyway, for example, i have written a interface for the MODCP to be able to control access masks.
It requires alot of hacking and borrowing of code from the ADMINCP, so i assumed that i wasnt allowed to post the whole lot.
What would be nice, because i have created this file from portions of admincp files, is to be able to post it?
how about one full version with ALL the vB hacks, in the members area? :)

merk, I think that would be allowed now, although only in attachments.
But I'm really not the one to decide, that's still John's decision and you'll have to wait for his approval.

I think it'd be a great idea to post full .php files. I'm real lazy and it'd be alot easier to upload 1 php file rather than change code all over the place.

I'm sorry, but John's decision is final - and that isn't going to change.
merk: If you send John an email, he will confirm whether or not you are allowed to post that.

His email is john@vbull right? :)

Personally I believe we all have an interest in the continue development of our boards via misc hacks (or we wouldn't be here! lol).
I think that the current method of searching for parts of the existing code to add or replace gives us folk not as proficient with php a chance to learn more about it.

I agree. Hacking around PHP applications has taught me most of my PHP knowledge.
However, if you have seen my hack 'Improved Accessmasks Interface' youll realise that it indeed is a pain in the ass hack, when, i could just post a file, instead of copy/paste information.

merk, please e-mail me with info about the hack, which files have changed and the new (hacked) files.
We will look into it and let you know what we decide.
