View Full Version : Migrated Servers, Forum Will Not Load, Config.php Issue?

Hello all, I migrated servers on my GoDaddy account and now my website will no longer work. My config.php file, I strongly believe, is the culprit. At this point, the original hosting root was "/" which is where i had my forums folder located. Now, there is a public_html folder, then another folder, then forums. So that would be the forum path issue, but when I go to the website itself, without the /forums, it just says 'oops, page not found.' Is there another file, like an htaccess file that I need to adjust or change information?

My biggest concern when migrating servers within GoDaddy is that this would NOT happen, as I know it may become a very big issue. I appreciate any help in advance, this is truly frustrating.

I'm not sure what you mean when you say "when I go to the website itself, without the /forums". Is there supposed to be something (non-vbulletin) above the forum directory?

What url are you entering in the browser? You (probably) shouldn't be putting public_html in the url, if that's what you're doing. That's usually the folder that contains things that are at the root.

I mean when I go to www.website.com it should take me to the home page. When I go to www.website.com/forums it should take me to the forums page. My point is, it won't even take me to the home page. I removed the public_html and it still doesn't work.

Everything worked perfectly until I moved the folders to a new server, so I guess let me take a different stand.

Since I moved all files to a new server (downloaded via ftp from old server and uploaded via ftp to new server), what information would need to be changed in what files so things can work properly? This is where I believe the problem is. If I know this, I can take the right steps to fix it.

Then it's not a vB issue.

The public_html folder is your webroot folder on the server. You can't remove that without breaking everything. No offense, but are you sure you're comfortable with managing your own server?

First of all, you need to be able to access your root domain properly. As long as that does not work, trying to fix vB is moot.

I'm not sure that you'd need to change anything for the forum to basically work. Settings that are file system paths (like the attachment directory) would probably need to be changed. But if you're using the same domain name and your forum is still in /forum, then you shouldn't need to change anything to at least see a page of your forum. If I'm reading your first post right, you added another folder between public_html and forum which wasn't on the original server, so there is a setting (a vbulletin setting in the database) that needs to be changed for everything to work right. But even without changing it you should see something other than "page not found", so you should work on that before worrying about the setting.

If you put an html file in public_html, like maybe test.html, then you should be able to go to www.website.com/test.html and see it. If you can't, then you have a DNS problem or maybe a server config problem, and you need to contact GoDaddy about that.

Very helpful, thank you. I will work on things and post back up with updates.
