Hello,

I am still using vBSEO 3.6.1 although this project was abandoned long time ago

I want to get rid of their plugin but I can't because I need to keep the URLs rewritten.

What can I do? Is there any good alternative?

Why are you asking when you already posted in the dragonbyte seo thread? Go install it.

What I did was just uninstall vbseo going back to default vb urls. Google had no problems in keeping my rankings when I configured and enabled dbseo minutes later. Plus keeping vbseo installed is a security risk, since there's no more updates for it, more exploits keep popping up, even on the main vb.com site.

The only version of the DBSEO that allows you to convert vBSEO URL'S is the PRO version. So you would have to purchase it to convert those URL'S. The Lite version will not do that.

Maybe so but if you configure it right, all of the inbound links in existing threads work fine, at least in my case. Even the google search results redirected fine from the old vbseo urls to the new dbseo and this is with using the lite version.

For your average person they may or may not know how to configure it to do that. :)

Either go with DBSEO, or ditch vBSEO, and redo the urls following this

I still can't understand why people want to get ride of this hack!! if you use on your threads, then you are in trouble with indexed pages. if not then you are fine at anytime you throw it away...

I still use it for js and css minification and removing white space. it is also a substitute for many other mods like Thanks or Like mods. also for Google analytics and custom page redirection or rewriting.

I may get rid of it in the future if any warning sign show up as insecure or security risk issue...

It actually has already had security issues, we (vBulletin Solutions Inc) sent out a mailer about it. I'm fairly positive its not the only issue that has come up with it, just the only known one.

Your best bet is to migrate to a third party addon, or get rid of it all together.
