Hi there, i also posted this in vb.com and wanted to see if anyone here has some suggestions or opinions on the matter. I have a fairly large forum thats run off a dedicated server, and for the past year i noticed that there was a delay/hang for about 5 seconds after a user makes a post and hits the "submit reply" button (which can get annoying). I have read that some admins had the same issue, and turning off the "enable email features" in the admin cpanel had fixed the hang which it did in my case as well. So now i have a large forum with email notifications turned off which isn't cool. Any idea what's going on, or if anyone knows anything about this? Any help would be greatly appreciated, as i don't know what to do anymore. Thanks.
Btw, i was suggested to use a cron based email hack which i have not tried installing yet.
Yeah, probably cron based email sending will solve the issue, if that's available for vb3.
...and it is, it's here: https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=201318

I will install it tonight, and cross my fingers. :) Thanks.
Did you try turning on "Use Mailqueue System"? That should make a difference even without installing that mod. I should have mentioned that.

Thanks yes, my mailqueue is turned to "yes".
Oh, and you were still getting 5 second delays, until you turned off email notifications? Hmm...well, maybe it was caused by locking of the mailqueue table, and if that's true then that mod should help.

Yup, i emptied my default mailbox as it was pretty full, thought it was that, but it didn't seem to have helped either. The only thing that worked was setting "enable email features" to no. :(
I hope this hack with do the trick. Thanks for the help so far.

Do you have similar thread searching enabled? Though, 5 seconds doesn't seem all that bad.

Hey Zachery, The automatic similar thread search is set to "no". It does vary, but on range, i would say 5-10sec. I mean it could be worse i'm sure, but it's definitely noticeable.

So, i was doing a little more research on this cron hack, but it seems as though this hack is made for forums that have large mailing lists, and generally send out tons of email, which i do not. I do have a fairly large forum with about 30k members though. The delay also happens when you reply in a thread with 1-2 posts, so not really sure what's going on.
You guys still think that this cron hack will be appropriate for me?
Thanks guys.
Well, that was based on the fact that you said turning off notifications made the delay go away. If you aren't using the mailqueue, then any subscriptions have to be sent as soon as the reply is posted, and that could take time. It doesn't really matter how many posts there are in a thread, only how many people are subscribing. But you did say that you *are* using the mailqueue, so I have to admit that that makes it less clear. It does seem like it shouldn't take that long just to queue up the mail, especially since you said you don't have a large volume of mail. But I have no other ideas myself, and it seemed worth a try, since I don't think installing it is a big issue and you can turn it off or uninstall it if it doesn't fix the problem.
Anyway, maybe someone else will have an idea.

I installed the cron based email hack as it was suggested to me above :) Looks like it did the trick!
