Is there a linkback mod that has the linkback drop down in the threads for vbulletin 4.2.2?

Could you elaborate a bit more?
On other forums, i have seen a little dropdown next to thread tools called linkback. I googled it and found out that having linkbacks were good for SEO. Is there a mod that adds that dropdown?

But linking back to what? If I create a thread, or say this thread for example, what would be in the dropdown?
Are you sure you are not meaning, Backlink (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Backlink)

Read that Wiki, it should explain a bit on how to get backlinks.

I can't say I have seen that before. Perhaps ask the admin of that site where they got it.
TBH all it is is a link to the first post in the thread, nothing special. Users can already copy the url of the page if they are referencing it, and paste it, but most people don't do that at all.

When i googled it, it said that it was better for SEO if someone linked a forum using the link from the dropdown.

i found this on a website. This is what made me want to ask this question here Linkbacks are positively one of the most potent forms of online marketing. You should integrate them whenever possible.

I suppose you read that here, http://www.webconfs.com/importance-of-backlinks-article-5.php
That info is outdated, after Google came out with Panda and Penguin updates, points for backlinks changed.

But is it even necessary anymore?

No not at all ... you would be doing the same thing if you tweet a post or thread or use facebook's like system ... linkbacks/backlinks are no longer rated and deemed important like they once used to be at all .. which is why "I" don't even bother when other websites want to exchange "linkbacks" with me lol ..
Carp I usually never try to tell anyone that what they are looking for us pointless, but in this case you really are not going to gain anything from adding this to your site ..what you will be adding though is some worthless js that may negatively impact your site's load times and performance overall for nothing ...

That's what I thought. Ay one point, 3+ years ago, it was good, but it is no longer needed.

Yeah...there was just so much shady stuff going on with backlinks that google caught on to it ...now even if you are doing it in a good way you still risk being penalized ...

Backlinks can do more harm than good depending on the site that links back. You should be very selective with who you allow linking. This is why every week I spend hours doing link research and doing link disavows for clients. Linkbacks with high risk will hurt page rank badly and some times even get you a penalty.

All the time I'm getting requests now to remove completely legitimate links my users have posted over the years in my forum. Funny thing: as soon as I request compensation for my work in finding and removing those links no one seems to be interested anymore :)

Yeah personally I'll not remove my footer link in a skin unless the brand free version is paid for. If it makes google go crazy then so be it. Over doing backlinks is something I will not do on purpose but I'm not going to take out my links in skins/designs I sell or offer for free unless its paid for.
