View Full Version : Perodic Email Verification

I would like this for both vb4 and vb3

If necessary I would pay for this as well.

What I want is a mod that, periodically (admin set time frame) will provide a pop up when a member logs in that displays the user's email and asks them to confirm this is still a correct email address, and offers them a link to change it if it isn't.

That sounds kinda interesting.

The idea is to cut down on bounced emails and to help ensure active members have their current email in their profile...

BTW, vb staff -- the email for this subscription just came through now... Look at the time difference. 9 hours.

Yeah I get it, I might be able to look into this at some point, after my current mod I am working on comes out of beta, and gets posted on vB.org

OK Chris -- you know how to find me when you need me

Yep, sure do. I will start thinking about the best way to achieve this, while I am working on my current mod. :)

Ok I am going to be starting on this. Don't have a clue how long it is going to take. It will be made on vB4 first, then I can see about porting it back to vB3.

I just got to figure out how I want to make the mod work and function first. :p

By default, ours does verification once per year with the birthday email.

How often would you want to do this?

This is not a email, this is a popup when the user visits the forum, or shall I say will be if I ever get going on it. :)

ozzy ask for help from other coders if you are having problems

Well I am not having any problems just yet. I was going to start on this, but I am debugging some issues with my latest release, so this got put off for a bit.

Seems like this wouldn't be all that tough to set up, Ozzy, using the PM system. Designated account sends the PMs on the set intervals? So instead of a popup, they get a PM alert?

Well it would be a popup similar to this, https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=270070

Then in the message, the way I would like to see it, if feasible, is it asks, hey you, is this your email addy? If user clicks yes, it updates the DB with TIMENOW, so they don't get the message till the time you set is up. If they click no, then inside the same popup, there would be a field to enter your new email addy, anoce entered, user clicks submit, and their account gets updated with the new addy.

If the later is not possible, then it would be a link to their usercp.

Instead of a link, the NO button could go directly to Edit Email & Password page.

I think a pop up is preferred, one that cannot be closed until an option is chosen.

I would prefer a standard vb pop up box however - styled to match the forum

You know, as I thought about this a little further....

This kind of system could be even more. For example, there could be the option to set up several timed notices. Additional notices could be things like asking for premium memberships or asking a user to read a specific thread.

Like the box you get when you get a PM notice pop up.Ahh yes.

I always opt out of those annoying buggers, on every board I am on.

But yeah, native code in use there, this mod could make use of too.

Here is a quick screenshot, of what a user would see. I still need to work out the link, and what to click if the email is right, and such, but you get the idea.
