Robot ID ?

Hello everybody,
My forum is still in progressing. I didn't launch it yet but i don't know why i had around 7 new members with the name : AAgx, ATremblay, BBardolph, JWIH, MILG, P85K, RMedrano ( all of them are using yahoo mail ). I saw them online most of time or all time . Are they Robot ? Could you please advice me how i can check whether they are robot or any tip to prevent Robot ?

They are most likely spammers. I would start off by reading, The era of Big Spam is over (http://ozzmodz.com/showthread.php/506-The-Era-Of-Big-Spam-Is-Over) and installing those mods to prevent spammers.

Today i got 12 messages same as this :

"184.154.36.166 tried to register.

It had a host name of: smartscan04.sitelock.com

It had a useragent of: SiteLockSpider [en] (WinNT; I ;Nav)"

IMO it is not needed if you installed the mods I recommended.

How do you know these were bots?

Did they actually post spam?

Do you use all the mods I recommended, and are using the lists I provided?

It's not necessary, and it has been known to screw up sites, deny legitimate users, and etc.

Yes, I've had it screw up a couple of my sites and have had to uninstall it. So I steer clear of that one all together.

If you have the stuff installed that was stated before you should not have a problem, but if you just need to not allow one person to post and you are sure they are not a regular member then you can use some of the vBulletin built in features to block certain IP addresses & email accounts. Go to Settings>Options>User Banning Options and enter the IP address in the Banned IP Addresses box, then enter the full email in the Banned Email Addresses Then click "Save" at the bottom. Be sure in this case to enter the full email address. If you enter just yahoo.com then you will ban everyone with a yahoo address and you may have members who have a yahoo account already.
