View Full Version : Increased Session Timeout

I have a newer forum, and to help it look a bit more busy I have increased the Session Timeout to help the "Who's Online" look a bit more appealing to new or prospective members.

This has been working great for months, however I recently updated from 4.2.2 PL1 to 4.2.2 PL2 and it seems to have stopped working. I have not added any new plugins in some time, so I did not think it would be any plugins causing it.

I increased the Session Timeout from what I have been using after I noticed that the "Who's Online" had cleared itself.
With the new value, it still resets multiple times a day, even though I have it set longer than 1 day.

I checked the Scheduled Task Manager to see if the 4.2.2 PL2 had anything new added, or perhaps something resetted on update and did not notice anything changed or added. Being new to VB I may have well missed the change and not knew it existed originally or had a different value.

I know I cant be the only one to adjust the session timeout to beef the look of the who's online stats. On the "Fake Stats" mods for 4.x.x the fake usernames feature no longer works, yet I still see forums I visit with wildly unbelievable stats. Has anyone else noticed that this stopped working for them after updating to PL2? Any suggestions on what to check to see why this is no longer working as it had in the past several months?

Thanks in advance for reading, and any advise that is given.

Are your users checking the remember me box when they log in?

Does everyone suddenly disappear off the Who's Online (online.php) page? And, do they disappear off the Currently Active User list on the main page at the same time? If so, it sounds like mysql is having a problem and restarting for some reason (you can look at your mysql error logs to find out why) and you will need to talk to your host about fixing the issue.

@ ozzy47 I am not sure if they are, it was just odd on the timing of the Who's Online clearing.

@Lynne Yes, they disappeared off both at the same time. I will check for mysql error logs to see what shows.

Thanks for the advise and a place to start for looking into this.
