I've been running a forum for several years now on version 3.8.3 with no problems at all. I'm very happy with the program and the users don't have any complaints, but I feel like I should be asking if I need to upgrade. I know there's safety concerns if you use an old version too long but I'd kinda like to update the look and feel also, maybe using a CMS too, not sure. I'm currently running no mods, which may be helping the "no issues" side of things.
What do you guys think? When do you upgrade? And BTW, I would be paying for help to upgrade so I don't have to worry about messing anything up. 8-)

If it's not broke don't fix it. :) But soon you will probably need to upgrade to the latest 3.8 version, as 3.8.3 is a bit dated.

If your population likes it and you like it, there's really not that compelling of a reason to "upgrade." But like Ozzy says, I DO suggest stepping up to the latest version of 3.8, which I believe if memory serves is 3.8.9 beta1.

One issue that prompted me to upgrade was the host decided they had to update PHP to 5.4 on my server. This caused a bunch of weird problems in my 4.1.7
I have no idea if this is an issue with 3.8.x

I have no idea if this is an issue with 3.8.xThis is why 3.8.8 and 3.8.9 exist, for PHP compliance.:D
