Christian, and Surname hack needed!

Hi,

New to Vbulletin and how the tech bits work so have left well alone, so I have a standard v4 install with current updates. I have Spam-o-matic installed and that is helping alot on our forum but of late we are getting lots of spam attack's each day trying to join, the common factor is the Christian name and Surname will be the same.

Is there a way to make the system check if the Christian name and Surname are the same and if so just ban the user or have Spam-o-matic do it???

I keep blocking the ip addresses but they just change to new ones and start again. now getting 15-20 new fake accounts each day.

Any help would be great in how to help control these issues.

You mean that the username always contains the same thing every time? You could add the name to the "Illegal User Names" list in the admin control panel at registration settings.

I would guess that Christian name and Surname are two custom User Profile Fields you have? There is no option to compare two profile fields and, if they are the same, ban the user. You would need to write a plugin to do that. And, since you are already using a hack that interacts with registration, you may need to add it to the end of one of those plugins. You may want to post in the modification thread and ask which of the plugins would be the best to add your code to.

Dave, No each time they try and join they uses a different name but it is copied into the Christian and Surname boxes like.
