I've never been able to use the feature to filter out the categories list (when creating an article_ to only show categories (for example) that are in This Section only, the search box/button never does anything ...?
I am still using v4.2.0. Yes I need to install some patches but this feature has never worked for me.
Any advice?
Cheers

No one? Does this feature work for anyone else, I'm assuming given there are no replies in the months since I posted this that it must work and I'm the only user having this issue ... ??

To be honest I've never tried to even use it on my vB4 sites that I've had in the past. Possibly the best thing you could do is upgrade your board from 4.2.0 to the latest version. Possibly this might fix it.

Well yeah the first step I would do is upgrade to 4.2.2pl 2 as you are running a version that has many security issues, and might be the problem you are having now.

To follow-up, I do believe this button is broken, even in the latest versions, and have filed a bug report - http://tracker.vbulletin.com/browse/VBIV-16049
I suspect the intent was to display only categories that matched the search term in the box below as it would be very difficult to find specific categories if you had dozens or even hundreds listed on your site.

Thanks for filing the bug report Joe, hopefully it wont be overlooked like so many of them. :)

Well, between us: Do you really think it still makes any sense to log vB4 bugs? Development has stopped long ago, so has bugfixing (apart from what desperately needs to be fixed to get it running under current php versions). All those bugs are not overlooked, they have been and are actively ignored.
I somehow admire your optimism - do you see even the slightest chance this will be fixed?

I seriously doubt it will get fixed, as it is not a showstopper. :)
But I wonder how it has a status s scrubbed?

Well, I think BoP can scrub his own bugs :-)

I have close to 500 categories on my site and when a writer needs to select one they just type the category name or the first part of the name and it comes up.
For instance if I am looking for "Joe Smith" and I type Joe then all the Joe's including Joe Smith show.
