Another mod brought to you by,
https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/external/2015/01/1.png
This is a small mod that will allow admins to show ads in the first post of a thread (post # 1) and the last post of the thread, right above the signature area.
It is a simple installation, import the product XML, ozzmodz_post_ads
The settings for the mod can be found under, [OzzModz] Advertisement Inside First/Last Post
Complete Feature List
Option to disable the mod completely.
Setting to enter you ad code.
Option to choose either the first post only, last post only or both first and last post.
Option to center the the ads.
Option to select which usergroups do not see the ads.
Option to set which forums the ads don't show in
Frequently Asked Questions.
Q. Why do I need such a thing, you ask?
A. This has been asked for a few times, and was usually a template edit, so I decided to turn it into a product.
Q. Does it only have to be advertising?
A. No, you can put just about anything you want in there. :)
Q. How is this different from the vBulletin Advertising system?
A. Well if you choose to show the ad in the first post position in vBulletin, the ad will show up on all pages of the thread in the first post. With this way, it will only show up in the very first post of the thread. Also there is no ad location in vBulletin above the signature area for the last post in the thread, but with this system their is.

* For security issues - vbulletin.org will contact all members who have installed a modification whenever a security issue is brought to their attention.

I did yes, as I use a second post as ad already so this worked great just adding the same adsense code to it...
But like you said in the info of the mod you can add anything in there, so who knows what I might use in there later ;)

Ozzy, what I have noticed is if a member doesn't use a Signature then the ad doesn't show on the first and last post.
Where as if the member does use a Signature then it shows as normal like the mod should do
Anyway to make this work so it always shows even if they don't use a Signature?
I only just saw this as many members use a Sig but I just caught it with a few who don't

Ok I think I found a down and dirty way to do this.
I set the signature to show as true, even if the user does not have a signature added. So when you look at the advert, it has the border on the top, and the bottom, just as it would if the user did have a signature.
Now what I can do, is add a option to have default text in place of the users signature, if they don't have one.
That sound cool?

Another thing I was thinking of adding, is if you are showing the advert in the first and last post, add a option, to only show it in the last post if X replies have been made.
This is due to the fact, if a thread has only one reply, the add is showing in the only two posts there. So you can set it to 3 posts, or to 10 etc.
How's that sound?

That sounds great bro!
This is much easier than having to write long conditionals with arrays. I can't wait to use this!
I have some other ideas as well but not sure how much work you want to do on this.
## A template that looks like the default postbit/postbit_legacy optionn that would show the ad under instead of inside would be great. It would be a great option to even have the ad display under without the template but the template would be good. :D
Great as is too! Thanks Ozz!
ozzy47
09-08-2014, 09:04 PM
So you mean it would look like a reply to the thread, kinda like you replied to the thread with the ad?
RichieBoy67
09-08-2014, 09:20 PM
Yep, exactly.
Then the person using the mod sets up the ad to blend it and make it match. Great way to get good results. I use this method often.
ozzy47
09-08-2014, 09:24 PM
Ok so the ad is in the post body, but what is in the user info column, like username avatar etc?
RichieBoy67
09-08-2014, 09:48 PM
I have a custom template on my site but the default would work as standard. it just has to blend in a bit. it does not have to look exact though it would on most themes using the default.
I sent you a link but I will put up a screenshot to show what I mean..

Richie I have been playing around a bit as you suggested. The screenshot shows what I have come up with so far.
This is not a actual user, it is all coded in the template. It would of course have options to control it all, as well as be phrased.

Yeah, that is exactly what I am talking about. No need for it to be a user. it just has to look like one. That looks excellent.
ozzy47
09-09-2014, 01:14 AM
Now I need to work on the postbit template, then go through the process of phrasing and adding options.
TBH though, I am not sure if this should be a part of this mod, or a different mod. If it was to be added to this one, I would need to change the title.

09-09-2014, 01:23 AM
Cool!
I agree. It may be a better idea to just make another mod out of it or maybe an add on to this one separately.

As long as it will show the ad in the first and second post like it does when a member has a signature I'm happy with that.
For the thing yourself and the other member is talking about, at the moment I am using this mod which works fine:

is it not against google adsense tos ?
I saw some forums that show ads that way, and Google didn't stopped them from showing (and Google certainly knows where ads are showed).
Only thing you need to watch for is that you don't have more than three (3) ads on the same page.
On the other hand, if someone knows why this would violate AdSense TOS, please say so.

i researched this years ago and it was not against tos but I always add a sponsor description or title just to be safe.
And yeah, if using this one on first and last posts then that is 2 ads right there.. and you only get 3 per page so everyone should be aware of that.

I hope to have a update out tomorrow, I was waiting for your feedback, but somehow I missed your reply.
And as for the second post advert mod, that looks like what I am working on, but I think mine will be more customizable.
But that will be in another update, after I make sure you are happy with the current setup. :)

Yes I did reply a page back but like you said it got lost in other posts.
As i said this mod does work right apart from when a member doesn't have a Sig then it doesn't show
As for the second post ad thing, I've been using that other mod for a while, but if it would get more customized as a new one by you then I will check it out.

I did not add any other place as to try and avoid two many adverts on a page, so users don't break the adsense TOS.

I feel like Im saying this everyday, but I love this mod ozzy lol. Thanks again for your work, the mod works fine so far. Marked as installed :)
One question, is there a way to designate the advertisements? So for example I want to show an ad in the first post with certain dimensions, but have a different ad size for the last post? If that makes sense. tyia

Great mod, but I can't get ads to show up on all pages of the thread in the first post.
It show ads on first post on first thread page, on last thread post and all last posts on all pages of the thread.
Edit: Ok, I found quick fix, it works if I change this:
if ($post['postcount'] == '1') //First post page one
//if ($post['isfirstshown']) //First post everypage
to this:
//if ($post['postcount'] == '1') //First post page one
if ($post['isfirstshown']) //First post everypage
