non sef url to thread using nodeid

I wonder if there is a way to open a thread using nodeid. Something like this:

http://www.myforum.com?nodeid=123456. Does anyone know how this could be done?

I understand that this would be redirected to a sefUrl, which is good, but only having the nodeid, I need to produce the non sef url first.
