How to add a banner?

Can someone please show me how to add a banner above the navbar links?

Not sure what you mean completely, but it might be part of the style which you can get here (https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=312655). Perhaps look at how they've done it.

edit the navbar template.

Don't just edit the navbar templates...

There are several ad location templates built in already, that's what you'll want to edit.
I believe the one above the nav is ad_location_above_navbar... I know, it's crazy..lol
If that one isn't there, there are several, check them out and play around. They'll all start off as ad_location_ then the placement.
