Hi

After 6y we're planning to replace a DELL 2950 with a new one.

Our hosts got an almost unused server (R410) from another client who couldn't finish a project.

These are some of the specs:

2x Intel Xeon E5530 Processor (2.40GHz, 4C, 8M Cache, 5.86 GT/s QPI, 80W TDP, Turbo, HT), DDR3-1066MHz
1x 1U Rack Bezel
1x 16GB Memory for 2CPU (4x4GB Dual Rank LV RDIMMs) 1333MHz
4x 300GB SAS 6Gbps 15k 3.5" HD Hot Plug
1x PERC 6/i RAID Controller, 256MB Cache, For Hot Plug HDD Chassis

They bought it new for eur 3500 and I can buy it back for only eur 1500. Good choice/deal?

It seems like a decent price. Those processors are 5 years old though. I think that if you bought all of the hardware in that list in a new state, you will spend about the same amount of money, maybe a bit more.

5y seems quite old already to start with. My other option is to buy a new R420.

I would go with the new if not much more than that other one
