Call me snoopy! *snoopy*
But I wanna see what my users are sending around, and reading the messages via phpmyadmin doesnt do it for me!
Obviously the deam would include, search option for words, and users, ect.
Hee Hee, but its just a thought! :D

I have done this for me.. cause I am the only admin I have on my board.. and a lot of sm and moderators :)
The only down fall is that not all of your admin's unless you give them access .. can get to phpmyadmin.. hence not able to view everything like pm's.. and everything.
So making it one more step.. like while in the admin panel.. having to log into it.. might work out, because I feel like Sisco did.. when it came down to.. it is kind of not right to be able to *snoop* in on your users.. just to read their mail.. but hey.. snoopy is as snoopy does lol

Long time ago, I added an interceptor. Every time a user mentioned a work from $pmwords (was set in the admin cp), a copy of that PM was sent to me.
Of course then my users found out... :(
I would never do this again, it's wrong.

Personal integrity? What's that? :o
You know.. they might be sending passwords or other confidential information through PMs.. imo, it's bad enough that the passwords are stored as plaintext in the database.. there's such a thing as becomming paranoid & monitoring everything your users do..
for instance, most people probably use the pass they have for your forums as the pass they access their email with.. if you want to monitor what your members say & do, why not take it a step further? why not log in to their email account and see if they talk about you there?..
power trips suck..
just my $0.02 :o

How did your members find out?
And I am on alot of forums, is there any way to keep administrators from reading my crap, when I am just a user there? It may be worthless crap I get, but it is my worthless crap, not theirs.
me = evil need more power over my user HAHAHA.. well not really but it would be a good think to have for users that are only under moderation. hmm

I want to be able to hide forever, and have no moderator read any of my stuff. Any help there?
And also, when I am in charge, I don't think it is right to be reading ANYTHING that someone does not explicitly send to you.
hide forever.. i was think about this. like making a ghost admin. one that had no profile, name, rank, just someone that can post out of no where and no be contacted... hmmm. but i guess you are right, it is wrong to creap into other peoples stuff but whatever people want to ad to their site is fine.

How to keep people from reading your PMs.
Option 1: Don't use them. Use email instead.
Option 2: As soon as you get a PM, copy/paste it into Notepad, save and then delete the PM.

on a couple of occasions forum members have asked me to solve the odd prob with their messaging. I just logged in as them taking their password from the system and went to their control panel. I really felt uncomfortable doing this. I run a forum where discretion is paramount and I would never dream of doing this except with full permission.

I think the validity of this hack depends a lot on the board it's used on. This would be very useful on my board, where there tends to be a lot of '+++++ing' between members, and we could do with an easier way of investigating people causing problems. (as opposed to phpmyadmin grrrrr!)
Hasn't something like this already been created for VB?

who cares what the users are saying to each other
thats the point of it being a private message
as far as swear words, i dont care, they can swear all they want, as long as they dont do it on the board.

okay, you obviously have "happy happy joy joy" members :p
Anyway, why put off this hack being developed, because you're obviously not going to be using it!

Is there any update on such a hack?
Some of us do need to monitor what is said in PMs - legislation differs in each country, but whatever our personal views on the matter are, sometimes there are legal or business reasons to know what is being said if necessary.
My main concern is that of one already expressed - password and login information. Additionally, I do not want competitors becoming members and plugging their sites via PMs which they have done in the past.
Just the ability to monitor if we would like to - no admin has to monitor, but let's have the ability to do so if we need to.
