Well, I have to be honest: as much time as I've spent on this forum, I'm not an expert on the basics like creating forums. But I believe the tabs are just links to parent forums. It looks like Articles and Mods are categories ("act as forum" set to no), and Styles is just a child forum. And of course the main page is the index. If you look at the url for each tab, it's just something like forumdisplay.php?f=198.

Anyway, I hope I've understood the question.

I too was having a difficult time in understanding the question even after watching the video. Several boards use AJAX forum tabbing, it is popular on xenforo. It has also been done on vBulletin sites, but I do not recall seeing a modification (that does not mean it doesn't exist). I have seen a modification called forum tabs, that should do what I think you are looking for. Let me see if I can find a reference to it.

This can have AJAX, if you need that option. You may want to read more at the dragonbyte site.

This uses the YUI library for tabbing.

You crack me up @KH99, one of the most knowledgeable people I have met on the forums here, knows the code pretty in depth, but hasn't created a forum. My kind of programmer! :) I have never looked at any of the mods till this year and that was so I could help the members of vBulletin.org.
