Whenever anyone clicks on the "New Posts" option on the menu bar they get this:
*************************
The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.

Please contact the server administrator, [deleted] and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.

More information about this error may be available in the server error log.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.
****************************
This has happened since installation. I am running v 4.0.2 with only one hack installed the "Post Thank You Hack"

All help and clues appreciated.

What version of PHP is on the server?

To be honest, I seem to recall a problem with search for some users in earlier versions of vB4. I would NOT recommend using 4.0.2 on a website. There have been soooooo many bug fixes and improvements to the software between 4.0.2 and 4.2.2

PHP Logo
PHP Version 5.3.19

I thought I had the latest release. Maybe I uploaded from wrong place on my client. Let me see what is up with that.

It appears my lifetime vB license is no longer being honored. It will only let me have 4.0.x versions. For now I need to get this working, once I have some traction I might be able to find money for a relicense.

It could be your version of PHP.

Well that is reporting blank pages. I have an error page. BUt I am trying to hunt down criteria.php and when I find it I will make the change and see if it helps.

My bug seems related to rewrite somehow (Way over my head). I see that VB installed a .htaccess file on my server in the public_html root directory. That must happen during install, because I don't see it in the upload files. At time of error, it seems to be looking for some files called

500.shtml
400.shtml
favicon.ico

all in the web root public_html.

I do not see any of those on my server. I am also getting error reports when someone goes back a a page, and gets a 400 error, but I have not duplicated that yet. Possibly related?

vB4 does NOT install an .htaccess file into your root by default. You would needed to have manually put it there if there is one there.

oooh. I took another look. I thought I saw a vb reference in it but now I do not. My webhost must have added it for some reason, since my last site install a couple of years ago. I guess my search belongs elsewhere. But thanks for your help. If I get to a blank page, I know what to do to fix it. :-)

Well I disabled .htaccess and it made no difference. So that is not the problem at all. It must be VB related. I wish I had a clue.

I had a combo of issues. But the link to that other post eventually solved it. Thank you Lynne !!!
