View Full Version : Vbulletin Style tutorial needed
I need a help in creating a new vb style from scratch. Is there any step by step guide which could help me getting this done?
I just need the design part right now, not the xml coding.
Please help me asap.

Step by step guide to do what exactly?
I mean, its html and CSS, and its not _that_ hard to follow the templates.
Thanks for your response.

You're basically asking us to write a guide on how to do everything you could ever think of in making a custom style. Which means we'd be writing a custom style for you in the process.
A color change only custom style is about 1~2 hours of work
A color change, and basic graphics is 2-4 hours of work, more depending.
Rewriting templates, adding custom html/css plus the above is 5-15 hours of work, or more.
Now you're asking us to document and explain how to do that step by step? That'd be a 20~ hour project.

And that's just messing with the basic stuff. Most highly modded themes I have created take weeks to compile..
The best way to learn is to study HTML/CSS3 as well as JAVA and other things used within. The Stylevars is a really good tool that was created for vB4 and beyond that does most of the legwork for you, but you have to get to know it. For the novice, it is the best place to start but it is limited compared to recoding to create or change a style.
Mostly you just need to to learn vB the way the rest of us have.

Learn JavaScript, not java, two COMPLETELY and totally separate things.

Style Basics article is here - https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=256370
How to further customize a style via plugin is here - https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=307739
Last but not least... anti-spam mods lol snag one or two from here (be sure they work well toegther else issues will arise) - https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=276547
So you go from styling to fighting spam all from 3 articles off my profile page here ;). The only thing you'll need to do that I have not listed is figure out the stuff in-between such as usergroups, forum and usergroup permissions and the basic settings - all that is pretty much covered in the vBulletin manual though - http://www.vbulletin.com/docs/html
Hope it helps :D.
