View Full Version : vBulletin google results HTTPS (broken images, etc)

As of lately, there's a lot of vbulletin.org related searches on google that forwards you to https://www.vbulletin.org/. I've already messaged Paul M about it and requested / suggested a forward from https:// to http:// as vBulletin.org does not support https as Paul mentioned to me in an earlier message. But so far I haven't received any reply regarding the solution/forward as the broken images, etc is getting quite annoying.
Yea, I know I can forward it myself as well but if I'm getting it, so will other people.
For example, if you google: vsa auto reply
You'll get this as a result:
https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=236147
While I created this thread, it does appear to have "forwarded" to http:// when the thread was created and so it appears some other actions through the forums does the same. But it doesn't appear to be fully working (https:// -> http://) site-wise.

Geh :p, if I'd be the only one i'd just add a script for this site. But many people are affected by this issue. It's not that much big of a deal to force http on this site for all https:// url's.

Bit disappointed that no one "official" (who can forward / fix the issue server and or domain wise) has replied within this thread -_-.

You got your answer three weeks ago via PM, I dont really know why you needed to create a thread about it as well. The site isnt intended to work via https, and never has, there is no immediate rush or requirement to suddenly "fix" it. I expect it will be looked at at some point.

I'd love to see it fixed so you could utilize it without broken images but I've also developed the habit of simply removing the s from the url then loading the page again... that's not a habit I'd like to keep though but a work-around in the least ;).

Is it possible to use the Replacement Variable Manager to change the https to http?

Yes, I've used for many changes over the years.

Would not help this situation. The https code isn't being generated by vBulletin. vBulletin is using relative links that don't have the https/http as part of the link.

Ah okay, wasn't sure. Thanks for clarifying. :)

I apologize Paul. But after I made my suggestion regarding "solving" the https:// issue, regardless it not being supported I haven't received any private message back. At such I had the feeling at that point I was being ignored regarding solving the issue. And seeing this issue has been around for a couple of years? (if I read the above posts correctly), then personally I have my doubts anything is being or will be done about it.
I'm sorry if I'm rude... but this is incredible easy to solve yet after the 'issue' being around for so long it's just being plainly ignored. I know this might not be the top priority, but if it's so simple to 'solve' it shouldn't take so long.

I participate in a velomobile forum that's running vbulletin. When we post embedded http images there's no problem.
However, last night I attempted to post a link to
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0ByWcWJrA0KCpNVpDcC1BMm85b1k/view?usp=sharing
I got the following broken image icon.
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0ByWcWJrA0KCpNVpDcC1BMm85b1k/view?usp=sharing
It appears to me that vBulletin isn't handling the link correctly because the link functions if I paste it to a browser.
Is there a workaround for this issue?
