Hi bro

I need your help with the subject of how to improve legacy/large forums systems and cleanse the forum

Most of us have a veteran forum with a lot of posts indexed in Google.
I think it's not right for us to delete them. (the old posts)
But the database is passing the size of 15 gigabytes, maybe there is a way to split it into two databases... or to do something else

Just an idea I do not know if I can apply it
Example:
1. Old data base (kind of archive) with all the messages of over a year without comments.
2. Active data base for all the new posts (Max from the last year).

Does anyone have an idea how to handle it?
If the idea to divide it into two databases true at all?
Is it possible to do with vBulletin?
You know a good way to do this?

I would love to have your help and your opinion

Thanks :)

I am not sure about database splitting it may not be possible .... but if your attachments, avatars etc are in the database then you can move them into filesystem to reduce the size of database.

It's not about the attachments,avatars... etc

I've complained for ages that what's needed is an archiving option when pruning forums. Right now all you can do is delete old posts. What would be great would be to append to a text file(s). I've been told the Print function already has half the work done.

You would be free to link to the text file thus preserving search engine access also.

My own current db daily backups are about 2gb, so I can't imagine how long it must take you to download those 15gb monsters.

Delete old issues will have very bad for SEO, this amount of 404 I do not think that Google will like it.
Unfortunate that vbulletin is not thought a step further...
What happens when the big system begins to be and old
