Hello,

I've seen several sites that detect adblock and kindly ask the user to disable it to support the website.

I would like to intregate this onto my vb forum. The most common responses to this question (as i've been searching for solutions for a few hours) are;

PEOPLE ARE FREE TO BLOCK ADS, JUST AS YOU ARE FREE TO DISPLAY THEM.

Please don't give me this. It's my forum, my website, I do what I want on it.
A small image with some text isnt going to hinder the browsing experience, anyway.
Not to mention it's simply a request, if they don't like it they are free to visit another forum that doesnt have this.

Anywho, to get down to the point.. i've seen reddit with this, wallbase.. and some others.
I've found the code (or so I think) that does this, but I have no coding experience so I dont know how to make it work with vbulletin. (I'm currently using VB 4.2)

This is the script i've found on wallbase;

<div class="dontblockpls">
<script src="http://static.wallbase.cc/front/6/js/areas/home.js"></script><script type="text/javascript" async="" src="http://www.google-analytics.com/ga.js"></script><script async="" src="http://pagead2.googlesyndication.com/pagead/js/adsbygoogle.js"></script>
<!-- wbcc-home -->
<ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display:inline-block;width:728px;height:90px" data-ad-client="ca-pub-2509768188512843" data-ad-slot="2059058536"></ins>
<script>
(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});
</script>
</div>

An example of this can be found at http://wallbase.cc

Any help would be appreciated, I have searched google for hours and hours with no result, so I figured this would be the best place to ask. Thank you.

Generally they do with with an image, or text behind the placeholder div for the ad itself.

Please don't give me this. It's my forum, my website, I do what I want on it..It's MY computer though, MY registry, MY resources and MY internet connection you're using to deliver unwanted crap to MY screen.

Is the other side of that pancake.

There are a couple of anti-adblock Mods available here at vBorg however.

I googled it for ya. (https://www.google.com/search?q=vbulletin+anti+adblock+mods+site:www.vbul letin.org&client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&channel=rcs&biw=1118&bih=893)

You have the choice to use, or not use their website. If you use a website often, and not seeing ads, then you're only helping to not pay your fair share.

If people want to let adverts run on their browsers, more power to them. It doesn't happen on mine and hasn't since around 2005.

Agree, I block all ads showing in my browser I even don't want to see ads on my own site, but if others do, that's up to them I never force anyone to see ads

If you think the internet can run without ads, I think you're being a bit crazy.

Ads are everywhere does not mean we can't block seeing them if we wish

I block all ads, I only enable them when working on a clients site. Sites can run all the ads they wish but I like many others above simply don't want to see them.

I also block the ads, can't stand them, and if I go to a site that has added them via some sort of workaround, guess which button I hit in the browser. :p

If you think the internet can run without ads, I think you're being a bit crazy.I don't think that at all Zachary and never have. Are you erecting a straw man - or somewhere, did I actually even hint at something like this?

But I KNOW FOR SURE it can damn well run just fine without ads on MY dime! It's none of my affair or concern what other folks do.

What is wrong with you people? If you want to state your opinion fight it out elsewhere.

This is an argument that never ends once it begins, it's pointless to even discuss it at all.

Request to lock threadI at least gave you some help. There are some add-ons and plugins here at vBorg that do what you're wanting, I provided a search link to them.

Maybe next time you shouldn't initiate the debate in your OP, if you don't want to see one.

Debate? Like I said above seems like discussion and nothing more... if you make it more then so be it else just smile and share thoughts on the subject :cool:.

Yes, thanks for that. But those are unfortunately the results I stumbled upon myself. I will just have to make do with the 'warning' message plugin.

And I suppose you are right, but then again people would have said these things even if I hadnt said anything nethertheless. Appreciate the help regardless.

Yes, thanks for that. But those are unfortunately the results I stumbled upon myself. I will just have to make do with the 'warning' message plugin. With several mods of this nature coded FOR vBulletin available here, you're saying you checked them out and none of them meet your needs?

And I suppose you are right, but then again people would have said these things even if I hadnt said anything nethertheless. Appreciate the help regardless.You don't know that. For the most part nobody cares or comments about the principles behind a modification especially in a help thread. They typically just help. Unless baited.
