I have been running this On for a year but I am wondering what are the draw backs to turning it off on a production server. I don't see vbulletin 4 getting any upgrades for a while and I don't edit any other php files. I do from time to time enable and disable some plugins. Would this cause an issue due to them using the hooks in the php files?
Thoughts?

Not exactly what you are talking about, could you clarify a bit more?

I use APC as an opcode cacher (running php 5.4.20). I currently have apc.stat set to on. My question is can I get by with turning it off if I turn mods on and off from time to time. Turning it off would have it not check the timestamp on the php files to see if the files have been updated.
