I cant figure where to add the index.php stuff.
I find the makenavselect("Statistics & Logs","<hr>",$df); in the index.php but if I try adding in the vbStates code I get errors.
I tried doing the following code
makenavoption("Deluxe Stats","vbstats_set.php","<br>")
I get page not found because for some reason &s= is added after the url.
Can anyone help?

Go to your admin page, toward the bottom there should be a vbstats section. Go to "exclude URL" and enter your domain (minus the "WWW", i.e. "yourdomain.com").

Kind of hard to have more new threads than posts.
I've watched the number since installation (about 18 hours) and it moves occassionally, but stays around that 500 mark. I think the post count is accurate.
I have read through this entire thread and didn't find anything helpful. I saw the item about adding one line to the index.php, but the line you said it should be placed after doesn't exist.
Any help?
Any solution to this? I'm having the same issues. Help! There is nowhere to add the line in /root/index.php, there is however a place for it in the program.php (vbstats.php). I inserted the time calc in there, but it didn't change anything.
I read thru all of the posts, seems this problem is being avoided?

Anyone?
Okiewan - It's a known problem that I'm trying to find the fix for. It's not being avoided, its just not fixed and I really dont want to extend this thread any more by saying (Yes I know and am working on that) any more than I have to.
There are some known bugs. The one you are having problems with seems to happen on only some servers. Then there are postcount problems, country problems, etc.. I'm working on them and hope to have a small fix out soon.

I had vbstats working great with vBulletin 2.2.2.
When I upgraded to 2.2.4 everything works, except under the "On Now" section of the main vbStats page if more than one user is logged in, only the first name shows. So if User1 and User2 and 1 guest are on the forums, it reads:
Members: 2 Guests: 1 - User1,
The comma is there, but the second logged in user doesn't show.
If User1, User2, and User3 and 1 guest are on my forums, it shows as:
Members: 3 Guests: 1 - User1, ,
Anyone else experience this after upgrading vB from 2.2.2 to 2.2.4?

I wonder what the upgrade from 2.2.2. to 2.2.4 might have changed that caused the names after the first one to disappear from vbstats?

Bane, or anyone... we are running our pages off of a .shtml extension, and we want to include the vbs_counter.php into our main page, so we can get more info onto the stats. But when we do it, we get a weird error? Do we have to use a php include when including vbs_counter.php?

Probably on 2.2.5 but I'm waiting until 2.2.5 is out of beta to install it (best to wait a few days after a new patch is relased to get the final version.)

7. Be sure to add this line to your phpinclude template:
include("vbs_counter.php");
Porblem is i've searched all through my templates and cannot find this TEMPLATE anywhere ???
this is the only thing that needs fixing as by reading through previous posts this will cure the other errors i get when viewing the public stats ??
Any ideas peeps

You have to go into your templates and put the link where you want one.
----------------------------------
I used repair.php and while everything *was* working before I ran it, now on my 'Quote' function in a message in a thread is now returning a blank box to put your reply in (the stuff from the quotereply template isn't there) and at the top of the page it gives me the following error:
Parse error: parse error, expecting `T_STRING' or `T_VARIABLE' or `T_NUM_STRING' in /usr/local/etc/httpd/htdocs/Forums/newreply.php(45) : eval()'d code on line 3Any ideas, folks?
Added at edit The weird thing is - I had$originalposter said:
$pagetext in my quotereply template. As soon as I reverted it to the 'original', the error seems to have gone away...

How are active and non active members calculated?
Thanks
Marc T Smith
04-15-2002, 12:40 PM
As I understand it active users are those who have registered and posted while inactive users are those who have registered and NOT posted.
Someone please tell me if I am wrong - as I well may be.
I am also curious - under 24 hours, is the Views = Page views or Thread views?
And what is the difference between Views Page views and Thread views in the context of these stats? If I have a thread which is 5 pages long at 15 posts per page and someone reads the entire thread, does that count as 1 Thread view and 5 Page views?
You are correct Marc. and the 24 hours thing is Page Views not Thread Views :)
Page views counts all pages that have the include. Thread views only count showthread pages.
As a side note I'm hoping to drop a little upgrade sometime this week to fix some things. So all of you who have clicked the install button will get the email, but I wanted to add this just so the folks who didnt click the install know its coming.

One thing I might suggest - since this is a 'stats' hack. Where it gives users online, you might want to think of including the bit from the vB forum home page --> The most visitors ever online on such-and-such a date at such-and-such a time.
I'm a total php dummie and tried to put that in using the code from the forum home page:The most Members and visitors ever online concurrently was <b>$recordusers</b> on $recorddate at $recordtime.The text came up but the variables didn't. I don't know enough yet about php - I thought you just put in the variable such as: $recordusers and it would 'print' when it was parsed.
vBulletin is slowly making me learn php, so I'm not complaining - but that's how php dumb I am.
I've been playing a little with my templates a bit http://16949.com/Forums/vbstats.php
If you're interested in a small discussion there on what we're looking at see:
http://16949.com/Forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=4528
I finally did read thru every post in this thread. Install was smooth. You have the same problem all boards (including mine) have - many, many people refuse to take the time to read before they ask questions so the same question is asked in the same thread 20 times.... I particularly was tickled by the poster who said s/he didn't have enough time to read the entire thread. I also thought the fella who was 'critiqueing' never did offer any help or point out any specifics. Despite his 15 years and certification or whatever. I was disappointed in his limited interaction.
Anyway, thanks! I appreciate the work you've put into the project.

to your phpinclude template.

hi, i JUST asked the qeustion on the last page....heh, and the post above u is the answer. so to answer the question:
To get all those "Division by zeros" u will need to add this in your phpinclude template:
include("vbs_counter.php");
(just incase u dont know, go into the admin cp, all the way down u will see Templates Add | Modify | Search Add Template Set --- Then click on the Modify link, expand the list for whatever style (default by default) ur useing, then find the phpinclude template. Click modify, and just past include("vbs_counter.php"); into it. also, u dont need the // )
your last question i cant help u with.... :ermm:

Bane, great hack,I just installed it and spent about 3-4 hours customizing all the templates associated with it, to get the exact look and feel I wanted from it. Great hack, I really must say.
Only thing is, for some aspects of it, I had to actualy open vbstats.php to customize! For example, on "vbstats.php?action=country" I had to actually open vbstats.php and look for $reflistbit in order to place an image to the left and right of bar1.gif, bar2.gif..... etc..
Maybe in the newer version make these more template based?
Nonethe less, great HACK! Bane, get on ICQ and I'll give you a preview of what I've done with vbstats for pj v3 :)

I've had it running on my board for quite a while. There are the 'bugs' which I will tell you to bravely read the thread rather than go into the flags issue and such.
For free it's one fine 'program'. I like it. Take it, play with it, read the thread and understand what it's doing and you'll be fine.
You can see some of the issues with respect to what the user sees and interpreting its functions discussed in a 26 post thread at http://Elsmar.com/Forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=4528
BUT*** This thread here deals with the technical issues and is a must read in it's entirity if you really want to know what's going on.

i just upgraded to 2.2.6 using a merger, and i uploaded all the original vb stats files... still is blank, whats up
You wiped out the templates when you upgraded. Run the vBStats installer and select upgrade to get them back.

This is a great hack and I find it very valuable -- but -- I don't want to have a visible button to it (or make a bookmark cause I'm lazy). Maybe I'm just being stingy about my stats? I have noticed that registered users CAN see the thread titles from Moderator only forums in the Top Threads/Forums page of the stats. :surprised:
So I made a link to vbstats out of something that almost nobody would think was a link. A horizontal line in my nav bar. Just wrap the HR tag in a A HREF tag. Voila!

Ok i installed the hack successfully and i now want to have ONLY the Top Posters in forumhome..
How do i do this? i really don't have a clue.. so if you can help me please do so..
Have you ever thought about this?
How about a variable in the Last 24 Hours: box for Visitors:
The front page already has Most users ever online but I don't think I've seen this request in a specific hack. It's similar to Who was online today hack but maybe not the same. This wouldn't necessarily list the names of the people from the last 24 hours (although that might be interesting too) but it would certainly count the (unique) visitors - perhaps by IP address?

I'm confused - what do I install with 226? The original hack in the first post that says it works with 2.0.3? Or something else?
It would be helpful if someone packaged it up for the current release of VB rather than having to work out the changes.

Can someone answer this simple question?
Can I just download and use the file in the first post on VB 226?
Or do I have to work out myself the changes needed for 226?
Surely this is not too much information to provide?

Pilot, just download the file and then follow the instructions. It's pretty straight ahead. After a few uploads, the install happens via your web browser. It's one of the easier hacks to install.
Give her a shot! :bunny:

Great hack. Now we need a "Search this Thread only" hack to sift through 59 pages of responses to find out how to omit the admins or any other users you want to keep out of the top posters column. LOL!!! I'll start at page one, it has to be in this thread somewhere. :D

Did the hack work with vB 2.2.6 WITHOUT reading through the pages? (Meaning that you only read the instructions contained in the *.ZIP file)
Floris
07-22-2002, 02:49 PM
You could get a blank page, if you didn't successfully installed the hack 'out of the box'.
You could get a blank page, if you had it installed on other versions then 2.2.6 and then upgraded vBulletin, if this is the case, then goto the install file in admin/ dir and run the upgrade option. (you could maybe try that for the first scenario too now)
I installed it in 2.2.1 and since then with each upgrade of vBulletin, I have just manually re-applied the hack to the files and checked the sql adjustments if they were fine and run the upgrade script. I didn't read this thread or any of the posts because i had no complaints.
Gary King
07-22-2002, 03:05 PM
I simply applied the hack on a fresh installation of vB 2.2.6.. and didn't work :ermm: so I didn't bother with it anymore, since it isn't a very important aspect of my board :)

now not sure if any support is been given to this as its an old hack now.
But what i want is - i have vbindex (top hack by NTLDR) and would like to call the Top Forums/Threads so it shows on the main page with it.
i have tried $topthreads1 but nothing shows any body know how to call these in.
I get lost when told to use a global command etc so any help for a newbie ??????

ok, I figured it out thanks to reading 50 pages of threads.
The install file (specifically the admin/index.php) should really be updated for the versions of 2.2.5 and later

Yea, me too. I figured out my problem after only reading 20 pages. Finally found the phpinclude template buried in the control panael, styles, modify templates. It was VERY confusing to us former UBB users.

followed the instructions --
worked on the first try vb 2.2.6 fresh install
one thing i did find (could have been from a previous hack)
in the optional file hacks - changes to admin/index.php
find:
<tr><td>
<table width="100%" border="0" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="2" id="navtable">
<?php maketableheader("Stats & Logs"); ?>
mine looked like this:
<center><a href="index.php?s=<?php echo $session[sessionhash]; ?>&action=home"> Control Panel Home </a></center>
<table width="100%" border="0" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="<?php echo iif($cpnavjs,2,5); ?>" id="navtable">
other than that -- easy install -- works great!

Thanks,

I've installed this then got the usual error messages that everyone else seemed to be experiencing (Division by zero etc.). Then updated the phpinclude template to include vbs_counter.php - nps. The errors disappear.
However, it appears as though none of the statsistics on the first page (Site Statistics) work. The 'Forum Status' and 'Last 24' Hour boxes don't have any statistics in them. I actually went a created a couple of threads/ post and went to see if it would update after the installation, but nope, no joy.
All the other statistics are fine on that page (newest member, Browser, OS etc. just that is missing. All other vBstats statistic pages seem fine including the top forums / threads which also pick up the later threads / posts I made.
Any ideas? I'm using v2.2.5.

I'm running 2.2.7 and am installing it right now so far everything that was in the instructions is right to par, only thing I'm having trouble with is adding the hack to the admin/index.php
Where it says to add the code above, this line, the line that they are saying isn't there
I'll post when it's up.

I got it up and running, follow his directions they are all most perfect, the only thing I can't get in the admin/cp hack, I had to run the vb_stats.php and could change the options, I've read this thread back to front and nobody tells anything about what to look for in 2.2.7, I'm going to try and run the update and see if that does it

For all the masses,
I did this on a clean install of vb2.2.7, and it works fine, no errors, what I did was follow the instructions in the .zip file and the only change I had to make was in the admin/index.php From what I can gather the oringal thing to look for was this
Code to look for before version 2.2.5
<tr><td>
<table width="100%" border="0" cellspacing= "0" cellpadding="2" id="navtable">
<?php maketableheader("Stats & Logs"); ?>
Unfortunatly that code has changed since version2.2.5 so if you have version 2.2.5 - 2.2.7 look for this code "Thank Threadcrapper"
Code to look for after version 2.2.5
<center><a href="index.php?s=<?php echo $sessionsessionhash}; ?>&action=home:>
Control Panel Home </a></center>
<table width ="100%: border="0" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="<?php echo iif($cpanvjs,2,5?; ?>" id="navtable">
SO THAT SHOULD DO IT.
P.S. I attached the index file so if you want you can just download it, the file name is index.php.txt, so when you upload it rename it to just index.php and the code is allready in there so it should work great.

Just tried to install this on vB 2.2.8 per the directions, with no luck. I uploaded all of the files, then opened the install_vbstats.php file in my browser. The initial page opened up fine, but when I clicked on NEW INSTALLATION nothing happened. I was taken to the page that was supposed to be Step 3, but it was blank.
This didn't seem to harm anything because the forum is still up and running, but with no vbstats. :( If I missed an explanation, I apologize... I made it to page 30 of this thread and could read no more.

The root directory is where all your vB files and folders are installed to.
I presume this is your forums URL
http://www.diamonddavidleeroth.com/forums/
so your Root directory is forums

Hi NTLDR,
Thanks for the responce, I have however checked & double checked the directory & the page is in the admin directory and is called when I type the url (I don't get a page not found error) it is just that there doesn't appear to be anything on the page?? and if I view the source code this is what I see
<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional//EN">
<HTML><HEAD>
<META http-equiv=Content-Type content="text/html; charset=windows-1252"></HEAD>
<BODY></BODY></HTML>
So I am pretty sure I did something wrong or missed something, but I followed the dirctions & uploaded files as directed, so what did I miss??

Is that what you get when viewing vbstats.php or the vbstats installer?

NTLDR,
Thanks for your help I fimnaly got it up and running, the problem was and still is to a point, that the files in my directorys are php3 not php, so the installer was trying to include global.php anf=d it didn't exist. But my next problem was born of my own stupidy, as i did the install I did not do the optional hacks at the time, planning to do them later, well to make a long story short the browser window got closed before I could make the modifacations, now I don't know where to find the instructions for those changes, can you tell me?? or is there someother way (file) that I can make the url exclusions and other changes in?
Thanks again

Ok, I found that answer. So upward & onward to the next problem, where & how to I change this so that it looks for the .php3 extensions instead of just .php?

i installed this about 10 minutes ago on 2.2.8. It was a flawless install. However, i didnt install any of the options. I don't need them as of yet.

seeing how there is 20 pages here im sorry i really dont have the time to read them all :)
What I need to know is, is it possible to only choose certian parts to show for this? Cause all i really would like to show is the forum stats, member stats (without the referrals we dont use it), and last 24 hour stats. The top posters is somethin i would like also but the other stuff like countires and OS and that I can do without. But before I install this I want o be sure I can just set it up to show those things and not the stuff i dont want.
Also you wouldnt by any chance of a php3 version of this? It is such a pain to go thru all the files and change the php to php3 :)
I awiat your reply in earnest,

installed the hack but get an error on my forums homepage:
Warning: Supplied argument is not a valid MySQL result resource in pathtoforums\vbs_counter.php on line 74
My phpinclude template looks like:
ob_start();
include("vbheader.php");
include ("vbs_counter.php");
$revdis = ob_get_contents();
ob_end_clean();
the other file in there calls up a file that reads data from another database and displays it on the forums.
when i run the vbstats.php i get:
Warning: Supplied argument is not a valid MySQL result resource in E:\domains\dvd-swaps.co.uk\dvd2001\dvdforums\vbstats.php on line 88
1046: No Database Selected
this is prolly cos my other file has mysql_close(); in it but if i take this out the vbstats starts looking in my other database!!
any ideas how I can get the vbstats to work. i have tried putting the include("vbheader.php"); all over the place in the template but no joy :(
EDIT
Got it going :) I had to add to the vbstats code and counter the code from global.php which connects to the database as my other file was closing all connections to mysql. works like a dream now. great hack :)

I'm really sorry, I just had to make this little tweak, because it annoyed me :)
Don't shoot me if it allready have been adressed..
When adding the vbstats to admin/index.php you don't have much coice on where to insert it, it has to be the top or the bottom, or you get a parse error (at least I do). And frankly, I don't like when hacks mess up my menuorder.. I want it pretty much default, so I won't get to confused ;)
Anyways.. here is what I came up with when trying to customize it.
This will allow you to descide for yourself where to put the vbstats-menu in theadmin CP-menu.
If you allready have the vbstats menu installed in admin Cp,. do the following.. else skip this step
Find and erase following in admin/index.php
<!-- vbStats -->
<tr><td><hr></td></tr>
<tr><td>
<table width="100%" border="0" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="2" id="navtable">
<?php maketableheader("vbStats"); ?>
</table>
<a href="vbstats_set.php"> vbStats Config </a><br>
<a href="../vbstats.php"> View Public Statistics </a><br>
<a href="vbstats_set.php?action=add"> Exclude vbStats URL </a><br>
</td></tr>
<!-- vbStats -->
now, find
makenavselect("Announcements");
// ***
and below, add
// HACK VBSTATS
makenavoption("vbStats Config","vbstats_set.php?action=edit","<br>");
makenavoption("View Publis Stats","../vbstats.php?action=stats","<br>");
makenavoption("Exclude vbStats URL","vbstats_set.php?action=add");
makenavselect("vbStats");
// HACK VBSTATS
// ***
this will add the vbstats menu below the announcements.
if you want to position it somewhere else, you can move it to somewhere else on the list, just make sure you insert the code after a "// ***"
Sorry if this "edit" has allready been mentioned or something.. just a little gadget I found useful

There are way too many pages to read in here...
Is anyone here kind enough to answr this question.. does this hack work on version 2.2.9 of vBuliten.?
and if so, do i download the file that is in the first post of this thread or is it somewhere else?

I have this hack installed and it works fine until I made a new template and made it default.
When I go to /vbstats.php all I get is a blank screen.
What is wrong here?
Thanks!

when you said you make a new template, do you mean you make a new template set? if so, this page is not working because you don't have the templates that it needs to run.
My recomendation is that you download, and then upload your current template set when making new ones, this wil ensure that you don't miss any of the templates needed.

So what is next? Should I reinstall it (removing the part that makes the tables)?

To be honest with you, the best thing to do is download/upload the old template-set that you was using before (not deleting the new one). Then you should get all the changes you made in the new template you made before and apply them to the freshly uploaded template.
Mind you, if this is the only hack that you have applied to the forum, you might be able to get away with just installing the templates that this hack uses.
I hope that makes sense?
