DragonByte Classifieds: What is it?
DragonByte Classifieds allows items to be sold in a variety of ways by your users including Auctions and stock controlled Buy-it-Now listings. It works on vB versions 4.1.x and 4.2.x

Allowing your users to sell items has never been easier with a feature rich Classifieds system that allows for Auctions as well as stock controlled Buy-it-Now listings.

Integrated into vBulletin, DragonByte Classifieds also allows users to see current listings, create their own postage and address options for use with their own listings and upload pictures to be displayed along with the listings.

With a permissions system, automated bidding on auctions, customizable feedback system, fees and fully customizable categories and specifications, and featured and digital items, DragonByte Classifieds caters for a wide range of requirements.

Major Features

Multiple Listing Types: Auction, Buy-it-Now (with stock support) and Wanted Items Listings Types to allow your users to sell and barter for items in a variety of ways.

AJAX Integration: We used AJAX wherever we could to help reduce the page reloads, including bidding, checking for new bids as well as other areas.

Automatic Image Resizing: All images added to the classifieds system will be resized and have a thumbnails generated. This will help reduce the page load time but not having to dowload the full image when you just need the thumbnail.

Stock Control: Buy-it-Now listings have a complete stock control that can be adjusted and allows for multiple purchases by different users.

Postage and Address: Mulitple postage options can be added per user as well as a variety of addresses letting users choose where they want items delivered to and at whatever price they prefer.

Feedback System: Allow users to leave feedback about transactions including comments and a customizable ranking.

Watch Items, Save Searches and Users: Users can save items to their watch list and choose to store searches for easy reuse at a later time. Sellers and Buyers can also be added to lists so that their latest items can be found easily.

Categories and Specifications System: An unlimited amount of categories can be created, allowing for subcategories and specifications creating a huge range of options that can help users specify exactly what they are selling.

Payment Processors: Integrated payment processors, including PayPal, to allow users to pay for their items and their fees.

Featured Listings: Allow users to feature their items for an optional fee as well as allowing control over how many items they can feature.

Just fixed a PHP error and patched the files. Simply redownload the package and upload only the files. No need to reimport the XML. :)

I've created a Fee for "Feature List" for example, and I didn't know that the item has any Fees until I scrolled to the bottom of the Item View.

We use as 'States' the ISO 3166_2 standards as detailed on this page:

I will take a look at how we might be able to remove the States option in a future update. In the mean time you might want to just use a 'catch all' option such as a repetition of the country (i.e. United Arab Emirates, United Arab Emirates) or leave it blank. The system should drop from any printed postage in the invoice any blank/empty fields.

User's should have the cost of the featured listing fee when they create a listing using the main submit listing form. It's build into the description of the 'Featured Item' section. I'll look at making it more visible.

:) the thing is that i've left the bank transfer option only (disabling all other), yet it says it needs a paypal acc on clicking the Buy Now button. I might miss a setting somewhere

Thanks for the report. I'll look into what's causing that error. :) You should be able to leave the state blank. Will sort that for the next update.

If you have a relevant fee for a usergroup and for that listing type for featuring, it should appear something like this:

If you are an admin with no restrictions and no applicable fees (for your usergroup and/or the listing type, i.e. auction, buy-it-now) it won't show for you.

Fixed the incorrect page in the Fees section of the Admin Control Panel, the misaligned options in the User Control Panel and the missing contact seller link for admins and moderators, as well as making it possible for states to be skipped completely if there are no states for a particular country.

All will be included in the next update. :)

Thanks for the info BT. I'll check the page not found issue. Regarding the fees, do you have any other Featured Fees already created? Do any of them match the usergroup you are testing with? The system will always find the lowest cost fee for the user and their usergroups they are in.

One thing that might be worth trying is unchecking all the usergroups and seeing if that makes the fee properly appear (when non are checked Classifieds assumes all usergroups are valid for the fee).

The only other thing to try that might be behind it is repairing the cache.

I should get some more time tomorrow to do some in depth checking, so any info you can provide will help me trace the bugs. :)

At first I thought the same but upon having a closer look it seems as if this is a Classifieds Mod and something similar to iTrader both in one. So you have both a classifieds section with multiple options AND a ratings system for those trades... not too shabby imo.

Some may want more features, if not then go with Ozzy's release. Remember all, some mods are overkill for your forum and others are just the right fit, experimenting and realizing this for yourselves is just part of the "admin" job ;).

Yeah this mod is awesome, it is feature packed. I actually own the pro version, not sure if I will ever have a use for it, but I might at some point.

TBH I like this more than my version, Christos did a good job on it, but it is in need of alot of missing things. But that being said, I don't know if or what I may add to the mod, as there are more powerful alternatives such as this and Panjo.

And just a FYI, it was not Fillip that wrote this mod, it was Matt, another one of their developers. :)

Thanks for the feedback. I'm not familiar with vBSeo so I don't know how things are setup within their system, and much of the DragonByte SEO integration came via Fillip/Belazor so I'll get some input on the matter from him for you.

When you say the standard market links, do you mean the links that appear when viewing the listings page? If you can provide any links or images to show what you mean that would help. :)

Thanks for the input migratoria. To use the htaccess to grab the listing ID might be possible, but to grab the categories and titles would require that you run a plugin of some sort to query the database. vBSEO probably can do it and we have tied in the integration already with the DragonByte SEO system.

This week brings bugfix update for DragonByte Classifieds (v1.0.1) mainly focusing on bugs that have been identified in the Lite version during the past week. We're also introducing a change that will allow the State part of addresses to be partially optional in that if a country doesn't have a state listed to it then the user will be able to save the address.

The feedback we've got over the past week has been fantastic helping trace one or two key issues. The full list of changes can be found below.

A more simple classifieds program like Ozzmods is plenty..

Everything depends on what you want to have.

For example, I wanted ability that my users could have their own shops on my sites. I mean, real online shops, where real money could be exchanged for real goods or services.

This mod does that. I'm happy as I can be with this. :D

And yes, we all should know that it's supported by DBTech, and their support is great. This is also extremely important thing, maybe the most important thing. vB per see doesn't have such great support, but DBTech mods running on it does.

Just to add, I'm not saying that there aren't other good coders with excellent support for their (even paid) mods, but there certainly are bad coders. I learned that hard (and expensive) way.

Do you know what error messages you are getting? If you want to send me a link to your site I can take a look at the problem.

Are you using rewrites at all? Have you got any issues if you navigate directly to the Classifieds section of the site?

You can try disabling the following plugin (where changes have occurred since 1.0.0) and seeing if that prevents the issues:
Notifications (notifications_list)

The other thing to try is repairing the cache from the Classifieds part of the ACP.

Are you using something like vBOptimise? Do you also have any listings that will have completed in the last day or two?

PS, what version of vB are you on atm?

I'm not using any modification at all mate, I am using your plug-ins (Likes/thanks/Notifications/Classifieds) but for some reason when I enable the plug-in, my forum is dying. I disabled it at the moment.

Yes, I am uploading the entire new ZIP file replacing all old files.

I've just repaired cache, but no hope. Still getting the same error. ACP works fine, it's just that the main forum page doesn't work.

I think you might have posted this in the wrong thread tbh... the ozzmodz_classifieds (Ozzmodz Classifieds) is not the same as DragonByte Classifieds code. Do you have both Classifieds mods running on your site?

I checked the server logs, they're still not created. So I'll have to wait for few hours to get the report. This shouldn't happen.. :\

It might be a combination of MySQL and PHP issues that we've not come across before that we need to factor in. So far this is the first time that error has come up while being run on any of the sites that are running Classifieds.

I've patched the files (still version 1.0.1) and for the fix to take effect you will need to reimport the XML only.

This will solve some of the PHP errors users have been getting with version 1.0.1.

Patched some of the files again this morning to resolve some bad links in the Admin Control Panel. Reupload the files to apply the fixes and make sure you've reimported the XML with the overwrite option checked to ensure you get the fix from the update mentioned in post #53.

Do you mean the postal code data so as to help user's identify postage? If so that's a feature we've not yet implemented. It is on our list of features we want to investigate.

If you mean just importing the states for a particular country, that could be done using a MySQL command, but we don't have a mass add feature to add a lot of states quickly.

Another bug after the 'last update

Images and Tumbnails:

When I click in the preview of' picture of an Ad , the standard image resizes if, I click as administrator.
If I click as an unregistered user or registered user the image disappears generating error.

You mean like having a fee for just listing an item? That is possible. It's built like the seller fees on eBay.

If you mean prevent from creating a new listing until they've actually paid, not at the moment.

Depending on exactly what you want it might be possible to use the subscription system built into vB to allow users permission to listing items for a specified length of time.

1) Is fixed in the update released tonight.

2) Needs some more information. If a user submits a bid of up to 15.00 and the second user doesn't bid as high as 15.00, the system will only bid up to the next increment above the second user's offer.

So:

User 1 Places a bid up to 15.00
User 2 Places a bid up to 13.00
The system will then place User 1 in front with a bid of 13.50.

I hope that makes sense.

If there is something else you are referring to, let me know and I'll take another look.

Matt, can you please add/fix the following?

- Suggestion: Auto-Resize to images posted inline that are above certain size of our desire.
- Suggestion: Auto-Embed external images posted inline as thumbnails for the item.
- Bug: The item price gets reset or changes after editing the listing itself. If the item price is 4,000.00, and if you click on edit listing, then after submitting the list the price would go to (4.00). The error has to do with decimals I guess
- Bug: Also after editing your item, you have to go to edit image order to refresh the thumbnail.

Ok ... but clicking in the history panel, data are not correct, test2 is in the lead with 10.50 EUR, while in 'auction is 13.50 eur

I think I've worked out the issue here. The system doesn't show the 'auto' bids to users other than the owner (this needs expanding into a usergroup permission so that the admins and moderators can see).

At the moment it's showing you the bids that aren't 'automatic', which in this case is the very first bid of 10.50. I'll take a look at a work around on this problem. :)

One on going issue we've identified has been with listings made before v1.0.2 not updating their attachments correctly. The issues behind that were resolved in v1.0.2 and this v1.0.3 update, so any images that aren't ordered correctly can be fixed by editing the Edit Image Order.

This week brings the first major update of DragonByte Classifieds (v1.1.0 Beta 1) Which includes 9 major changes and features as well as some bug fixes to existing features. Another problem, I gave permisions to view the classifieds to my usergroups in categories but they can't use them:

When they try to view the classifieds this message pops up.

you do not have permission to access this page. This could be due to one of several reasons:

1. Your user account may not have sufficient privileges to access this page. Are you trying to edit someone else's post, access administrative features or some other privileged system?
2. If you are trying to post, the administrator may have disabled your account, or it may be awaiting activation.

Matt, I've got people complaining that with this system we wont have history of what was being sold and traded on our forums. They are actually right.. We'd like to have some sort of a history page where they can view all items that were being sold/unsold.

Also, if there's a way users can interact with the seller publicly like posting a question on the item or asking about a discount...etc. Just a small chat box to be under each item visible for all users who are viewing the item.

I've had a similar request from another user this week for a history. I'll see what we can do to create something for you all to help with that. Regarding the chatbox, it might be possible to do something with vBShout, but you are better just encouraging users to use the discussion thread that can be created with listings. I'll look at adding a count of the posts in that thread to help users see what's being posted.

I can't say for sure Sasha, I've never used iBid. It might be worth double checking the files are all in the correct locations in case that's the problem.

This might be down to using rewrites. What version of vB are you using? If you have a folder on your server with the name classifieds it might be possible that it's going to that folder instead of using the rewrites correctly.

Yes they want a thread-looking discussion that is in the same page of the listing. It'll actually help users to check on item history in the future. My forum is a car forum and we do have parts being sold right and left, It'd really help users identifying the price range of every part.

This might be down to using rewrites. What version of vB are you using? If you have a folder on your server with the name classifieds it might be possible that it's going to that folder instead of using the rewrites correctly.

Sorry that was it, is there a manual for this product? You could spend a couple of weeks setting this up..

The ability to deactivate parts of the form is a Pro only feature. User's can simply leave them blank, or you can edit the options for Conditions/Returns to feature just one option. :)

The error you are getting suggests that your server hasn't run the upgrade script that came with the first Beta for v1.1.0. Can you check if in your database you have the columns:

dbtech_classifieds_feedbackleftcount
dbtech_classifieds_feedbackleftcount
dbtech_classifieds_itemwoncount
dbtech_classifieds_itemsoldcount
dbtech_classifieds_itemunsoldcount

In the table user

If not, then try setting your version number in your product to 1.0.3 and then reimport the latest Beta 2 import script and see what happens.

Regarding the other MySQL error caused when viewing threads via TapaTalk, I've a new version of Beta 2 and I'm hoping this fixes the issue. :)

Uploaded a fix for that MySQL error Nelson as well as another MySQL error that was happening because of a missing column in the user table.

For the second fix to work, download the package and reupload the files. Before importing the XML, change the version number of the DragonByte Classifieds product in the Admin Control Panel > Plugins & Products > Manage Products > DragonByte Tech: Classifieds (Pro) or (Lite) > Edit to 1.0.3 and save the product.

Then reimport the XML which should add the missing column in the user table.

We will include this fix in the Beta 3 upgrade files, but this fix is there for users who want to apply these fixes before Beta 3 is ready.

I get a similar message when doing the install but when I refresh the page, all is well.

Thanks for highlighting this issue. I'll have a look at why it is. It does look like the issue is purely a matter of the redirect not kicking in correctly, so if you are not getting any other errors then carry on for now. :)

Hi everyone,

This week we have the fourth beta of DragonByte Classifieds (v1.1.0 Beta 4) which has a number of bug fixes as well as some changes and new features. Among the bug fixes are several MySQL errors that have cropped up and errors that have caused a few rogue listings with incorrect settings. In the changes we've improved checks done when submitting a listing to prevent errors unintentionally or maliciously being inserted into the listing, as well as now included the listing type when posting threads for new listings.

The new features focus mainly around maintaining and correcting errors. It is now possible to force a recount of of stock for a listing individually, or use a maintenance tool to check every listing in the database for the stock count or inconsistencies in the pricing and listing type structure of a listing. Additionally when a listing is completed or ended, then the associated thread is also locked automatically.

Thanks to everyone for their input and feedback in the past week. It's help immensely in tracking down several issues, especially thanks to JaiKai and Mick who have fed back several bits of data directly from their databases.

We're working through the rest of the issues and relevant changes that we want to introduce into v1.1.0 for next week. Keep the feedback and reports coming. It will be especially useful to get feedback on the Maintenance tools and how they help tidy up some of the rogue listings that have been floating about. :)

Tapatalk won't happen, but a mobile style will. Once we're happy with how things are with the main styling and functionality, we'll start work on a mobile style.

Just noticed your message. To answer your question the best way of explaining it is like this:

Specification: Colour:
Options: Red, Green, Blue.

We intend on expanding how Specifications/Options work, at the moment users can only select options from a drop down menu, but plans are to make it more capable. :)

This week we have the gold release of DragonByte Classifieds v1.1.0 which has a number of bug fixes as well as a couple of changes. Among the bug fixes are several MySQL errors that have cropped up and and further fixes and workarounds for any corrupted listings that might exist. Additionally users can no longer edit a listing that has completed or been marked as inactive, and the page correctly redirects back to the page of origin when updating the stock amounts.

The updates of version 1.1.0 brings a lot of new features as well as continued improvements and bug fixes. Among the main highlights of this series of updates are the listing views allowing users to see the popularity of listings, new notifications that use the vBulletin notifications system, new and improved advert boxes that include randomization and JavaScript rotation settings as well as new locations. Additionally we've added more settings and controls, like the ability to set which usergroups can select from various listing lengths.

We've got a lot more planned for Classifieds over the course of the next few months, and look forward to getting more feedback and ideas from you all as to where we can take this mod. Not at the moment, though we are looking into that for version 2.

The intention is to how specifications can be setup better in version2. Regarding the second question, the Pro version allows for fields to be hidden that aren't required and populated with a default option. Certain fields require some sort of data, whether it's populated by the user, or as is possible with some settings, by the admins before hand. Payment is required in some form (though the Bank/Transfer and Cash on Hand and Cheque systems are effectively 'blank') and the auction type can be limited by reducing which options are available before hand.

XML is not loading. I uploaded all of the files to my site and then I went to upload the XML file and it never uploaded. IT just got stuck like the picture below.

It is a fresh new install of Vbulletin. I have tried a couple mods after and they upload the XML. I tried again and still it just gets stuck.

It might be the size of the XML file. Have you tried doing it via the server itself, i.e. upload the file to the server in FTP, and then install it from that file location on the server in the AdminCP?

Sorry for the delay in getting a response to you... internet difficulties... :D

The finalizing 'hang' is fine. You can just navigate to your AdminCP and everything should be fine. I thought we had a fix in place for the issue, but I'll look again to see why it's not moving on.

If you find you are missing phrases at any point, just simple reimport the XML, though I don't think that will be necessary.

Just as a way of trying to trace the issue, could you try the install on a test site with display_errors turned on so we can get any error messages that might be causing the issue?

Not at the moment, though we intend to add a means to create a product without a price for exchange. It might be possible to add in a method of linking to another page. Post a suggestion in a thread at DBTech so that we can look at including that in a future update, maybe v2. :)

You can't yet run it indefinitely. But you could set it to a large number of days, which would effectively do the same thing.

any known issues with the bidding for the auctions. When a user click bid nothing happens.. after i hit it a few times and keep refreshing it will eventually show a bid was placed.. but when u click on the [1 bids] nothing happens. Should it show the list of bidders>?

I have a few questions / issues I am having with this.

First off, I love this mod. Its something we have needed.

The first issue is, when an sale is canceled by an admin, and then made active again, it wont show up and lists as " Canceled Yes (Admin)" and even when making it active, it wont become active.

Also a user clicked buy to see what it does on an item, how to I remove his purchase and fix the amount of the item for sale?

There is no way in the system to reactivate a cancelled listing. A user would simply have to relist his item (IIRC it can be done just with the relist option in their list of their own listings, though I've not yet done it from an admin cancelled listing).

To remove a purchase that hasn't been completed is something we will be adding into a future update. You can adjust the stock of the item to add an extra item (if there is existing stock), or relist again.

We've had a number of queries about dealing with problematic buyers/purchases and I've got on the cards some measures to help the sellers handle those awkward situations better. Will keep you all posted as we work through development of v2.

So, uh... how do we install this? I tried uploading the xml files named "bitfield_dbtech_classifieds.xml" and "cpnav_dbtech_classifieds.xml" via the product import panel to no avail. "Invalid File Specified".

There are absolutely no instructions. Checked everywhere.

You need to, drag and drop the contents of the upload folder (use Ctrl+A to select all files) to your public_html folder.

Then import the product XML.

Yes turning off the featured listing for the front forum page, also removing the jquery/jquery-{version}.min.js in the header because i dont want it increasing the page size.

In the Admin Settings section of Classifieds there is a settings group called DragonByte Tech: Classifieds - Advert Settings

In there you can disable various advert displays (or change their location) across the vB install.

Regarding the jQuery load, I might be able to find you some Template code you could use to not display that. I'll test some options and get back to you to let you know if we can do it without changing the main files.

You need to, drag and drop the contents of the upload folder (use Ctrl+A to select all files) to your public_html folder.

Then import the product XML.

The file you import is:

XML/vB4/product-dbtech_classifieds.xml

If you are running 4.0.8, that might mean you don't get the links correctly for the Classifieds. If that is the case, let me know and I'll sort something out for you. The XMLs you tried installing are part of the core features. We always put XMLs for installation in the main XML folder in the zip file. Anything in the upload folder needs uploading to the root forum directory.

If you still have trouble, let me know and I can take a look if you send me some access details to your Admin CP, etc. You can do that via PM here or to Mokonzi at the main www.dragonbyte-tech.com site.

Fixed it in the current version. If you redownload the zip file and upload it's contents to the server you should have a fix.

I found a solution to this.

Assuming you want remove all the jQuery code Classifieds uses on the forum index page, you need to make a slight change to the template:

That should fix the issue. Just remember that in future updates you might need to check the changes made to that template (though they are likely to be very few if any) to keep the mod up to date.

There's not a current way to do that in the Mod atm (we'll be adding that in the next major update) but it is possible to do it via a SQL query from your vBulletin ACP.

Are you familiar with SQL commands?

Hm, I just uploaded the new files and the error still occurs. More specifically, I:

1) Go to DBTech - Classifieds > Manage Listing Lengths
2) Choose "Remove" from the dropdown next to a listing length
3) Click "Yes" on the "are you sure" screen
4) Get the Invalid: 0 error

Not sure what's up!

Hi everyone,

This week we have an bug fix update for DragonByte Classifieds (v1.1.9) fixing some missing phrases and minor bugs, but also including an update so that listing items that haven't been paid are now displayed more clearly to the seller and buyer. This includes highlighting on the My Listings and My Classifieds pages, as well as a notification on each page of the site in the Notifications bar. Additionally sellers can now send an email reminder to the buyers, and both seller and buyer are notified when a transaction is marked as paid or completed.

Thanks again to everyone who keeps us up to date with new ideas and any issues. Version 2 is progressing and we'll be looking forward to getting some screenshots out of some of the new features as they progress.

I figured out the image problem. It was because of some strange places that it inherits it's styles from. Got sorted though. Also figured out the postage question. Still have the other questions though.

Also, just in case somebody else runs into it. I started getting a lot of database errors. They were caused by a very temporary install off OzzModz Classifieds. If you have ever installed that one and find, like I did, that it doesn't meet your needs. Just clicking "uninstall" doesn't cut it. You will have to manually remove the files that you uploaded. Not a big deal but maybe it will help somebody else.

So, still need to know if there is a place to configure more ad types. Buy, Sell, Trade, Auction, etc. Is that a manual template edit? Surprises me.

Does anybody know the code to create a widget? I thought maybe it didn't need one when I saw the sidebar display option but I'm not getting anything there.

I'm assuming this isn't how it works but I wanted to check prior to buying. We need something that allows us to run a "forum" as a classifieds category.

Panjo does that but i wouldn't recommend them. They made an update to their system and our entire panjo mod drops out until updated, now unable to update. This was a huge issue for us as some people relied on our site for sales. Cost us our reputation and now we have no classified section!

Not only was it a non existant integration but your plug in completely crashed, removing itself from our system before i even had chance to touch or look at it. Something that was done offsite on your end not giving our forum the opportunity to choose wither to upgrade or not. We had no control over this.

This causes huge reliability issues for us.

Very unsatisfied with your product and conduct indeed!

'Partly' is the answer to your question. We have integration where a thread is created for new listings. But it isn't that the listing is run from there. It allows a form of discussion if you want it. In version 2 we're looking at allowing comments both public and private within the listing itself. Not sure if that will help with you situation or not. :)

Much of the box structure comes from the StyleVars associated with the Sidebar. That might help in future. :)

Changing the names is possible if you put vBulletin into debug mode which reveals the Manage Listing Types page in the AdminCP. You can access it directly by navigating to the page /dbtclassifieds.php?do=listingtypes in your ACP folder.

At the moment we have the three listing types and we are developing more options in version 2 (working on them right at this moment) so we should have more available. If there aren't any to what you need listed over at www.dragonbyte-tech.com, feel free to post some suggestions for us to take a look at. :)

I'll take a look to see if there is an issue. Have you set the usergroup permissions for just Classifieds? It might be if you've restricted access globally that you could have issues (i.e. banned them from the whole site).
