I've read through the upgrade instructions a couple of times, but I'm a little bit confused.

My present VB installing is installed directly to the root, (public_html)

In the upgrade instructions it says to install to a folder mysite/vb5/....

This will mess up my URL's though, because the new site home page will be something like ...mysite/vb5/forum.php

Once installed can I move it to the public_html folder or will that just totally mess things up ?

I'm really confused how to go about doing this, it just seems a complicated way to do an upgrade.

If there are any volunteers out there I'd appreciate some help :D

Why on earth do you want to go to vB5?

Why on earth do you want to go to vB5?

I have a VERY small forum, and after playing with it, I prefer the way I can set up home page very easily with the modules and widgets.

I don't seem to be able to do that with VB4, at least not in a way I can understand or carry out.

You do not need to install it in a directory, you may install it in the root. However, you need to make sure that ONLY vB5 files are in the root or things can get messed up.

You would be best to try this on a test server first. But if I was you I would stay with vb4 to many bugs with vb5 still

As said above, you should ALWAYS try out a new version on a test install first in order to get familiar with the software and figure out if it is the right thing for your site.
