vbseo is dead, ok. Any way to rescue the likes system?

I have been searching for a while with no succes, so here we go:

Given that I must uninstall vbseo in order to upgrade to vB4.2, has someone managed to retain the likes system working?.

I understand this would mean a partial uninstall and wonder if it would be possible.

Sorry if this matter was already discussed, and in such case I would appreciate a link.

I already knew about DBSEO...

the aim was preserving those big gray hearts, not importing them. But it seems there is no possibility.
