Did you check their usergroup permissions?

Oh, my goodness! All new users are automatically banned!

No, I didn't. I don't see why it'd be changed???? I haven't touched it!

Either someone on your board did that, or is a result of a mod.

Looks like a lot of new users are being put in to the wrong usergroup after registering. Weird!

By default they go into usergroup #2 unless you have a mod doing something different to them.

Shouldn't be a mod. I've just disabled quite a few. Is it possible tht disabling a mod was the issue?

If there was a mod that did something to the users during registration, disabling it, or uninstalling it should not have any affect on newly registered accounts.

That's what I thought. But the new account I just registered went in as an administrator. I made another, and it went in under a different usergroup. That hasn't happened until recently.

Did you try registering with all mods disabled?

Open your includes/config.php file and below<?php add this line:

define('DISABLE_HOOKS', true);

So it looks like this:
<?php
define('DISABLE_HOOKS', true);
/*================================================= =====================*\
|| ################################################## ################## ||
|| # vBulletin 4.2.2

I registered with all mods etc turned off via ACP. Not the same?

Shouldn't matter, but this way makes sure.

I tried it, and the new user was automatically banned! OMG what is going on here?

--------------- Added 1388407307 at 1388407307 ---------------

So new users are now going in as administrators.

They are then automatically banned!

PHEW! Not cool!

Sorry to carry on, but it looks as if SOMETHING is adding new members as administrators.

Are you aware of vb.org member ForceHSS? As far as I recall, he MAY have added something to have new administrators automatically banned to avoid hackers. He helped me after my site was hacked, and unfortunately I don't remember as to whether or not that was the case.

He may have done that. I'll have to hit him up.

Regardless, it appears that I have to find what it is that's adding newly registered members of my forum as admins, because after I've changed that status to registered users, everything's fine, they can continue on and use the site as they're supposed to.

Just had a new member register, same thing again. Added as an admin straight away.

OK then what I would do is go to the members area av vb.com, download the files for the version of vB you are using.

Unzip it, and remove the install folder. Then upload the new files to your server, and try registering with all mods disabled, and see if you get the same results.

Really!? That's a mission. Damn.....

I had the entire app installed by my webhost, and don't know how to do it. Not too hard, I'm sure, but I won't be able to sit down and do it for a while.

NYE awaits!

Thanks for your help. Hopefully there's an easier method.

Have a good one, ozzy.

No there is not a easier method, something other than a plugin is doing it. So either someone changed a existing file, or uploaded a hacked file to your server.

For the time being I would send all new registrations to the moderation queue ACP --> Settings --> Options --> User Registration Options and set the setting Moderate New Members to Yes.

Then you can change the users group, then approve them.
