Converting links to text

One feature I miss from VBSEO is the ability to post a link and the system converts it to an actual worded link rather than a URL. Is there a plugin or way to achieve this without VBSEO?

OLD Mod, from way back in 2007 that was coded for v3... Reported by BoP5 to also work with v4.
