I'm curious, as an admin, do you keep your mods up to date? Do you keep track of what has been updated, and make sure you're always using the latest versions of stuff? I just realized almost all of my mods are really, really outdated. Is it worth implementing for security and performance, or is it just an annoying waste of time?

Update or patch those where security issues are found. That's what I would recommend to do at the least. Most of my clients end up having the mods customized one way or other, so updating each time a new version is released would be quite a hassle, but as long as you understand the implications and patch or update the mods as and when required, you should be good to go. You do have to keep track of things, especially security vulnerabilities related to the mod and forum software itself.

Yes I do, I always mark a mod as installed also, to stay on top of any potential exploits, and get the emails when they are updated.

Not always - but my recent adventures have changed my mindset...

You know what's weird - I always mark them installed, but I never get update emails! I wonder if I turned those off in my settings accidentally?

It's possible.

I don't know that I use any mods straight out-of-the-box, so I can't just reupload a new version. But, I always look to see what has been changed and update them if necessary.
