View Full Version : Miscellaneous Hacks - [DBTech] Live Streaming Suite v3 (vB4)

DragonByte Tech
10-07-2013, 10:00 PM
Live Streaming Suite lets you host a directory of your forum's Twitch.Tv or YouTube channels, complete with stream status, live previews and direct links to users' streams!

Why use Live Streaming Suite?

If you run a gaming forum, and a lot of your users stream content, you know it can be hard to get good exposure on Twitch.tv or YouTube for your members' channels. This mod can help boost your members' exposure by letting them add their own channels to your directory, displaying them in a nice easy-to-browse interface with multiple features that allows viewers to find your channels easily.

You can also use this mod to promote your favourite streamers by adding channels via the AdminCP.

Would you be able to make something like this for General Streams From websites at all Sir?

"you do not have permission to access this page. This could be due to one of several reasons:

Your user account may not have sufficient privileges to access this page. Are you trying to edit someone else's post, access administrative features or some other privileged system?

We still need specifics, because of how the backend works, they either need apis or something to expose for us to take advantage. Twitch happens to do just that. We can pass it some data and it passes it back.

DragonByte Tech
10-08-2013, 05:44 PM
I did a quick hotfix update to fix an issue with open_basedir (and safe_mode for older PHP installations) that would cause the stream to fail to fetch.

Also, as a general note: Do not input the full http://www.twitch.tv/<channelname> URL - it's only the <channelname> part that should be added. Anything else and it will fail to fetch the channel data.

I may look into automatically stripping this data for a future version :)

It's nice, but I know the question will be asked,so I'll ask it now..Why are they only linking to the channels? And not embedding..

DragonByte Tech
10-08-2013, 10:51 PM
Because embedding does not give easy access to following & subscribing to the channel, AFAIK :)

Embedding would be doing the channel owner(s) a disservice in that regard.

Fillip
If you want to unlazy, you can do some of the fancier stuff with using an API key, etc.

Remote/embedded views are shown ads as well, so its not really a disservice.

DragonByte Tech
10-09-2013, 02:07 PM
But doing so will inconvenience the admins by forcing them to sign up for that program :)

For the time being (and especially for a mod coded from scratch in ~8 hours), direct linking is IMO a better alternative to embedding.

Nice Mod! Many people really wanted something like this. :)

1. Problem: I just can add 1 new Channel-ID with a Channel Owner. If i want to add more Channeli-IDs with the same Owner it replaces the previous Channel-ID. Am i the only one with this problem?

But great Mod anyway. :)

Cheers,

DragonByte Tech

That is intended behaviour. However, you can add channels with no owners via the AdminCP - an owner is not required :)

Thanks for your answer. There is another thing:
Iam not exactly sure in what case this happend but its the secound time:

If i create a channel and want to edit it later on but > all fields are empty (pink).

https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/external/2013/10/10.jpg

Now if i want to delete this Channel (pink) the following error occured:

Could not find phrase 'dbtech_twitch_invalid_x'.

The reason i want to edit this channel is that the link was correct in the first place, but then it automatically added the following:
urbanzone > urbanzone%E2%80%8E

https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/external/2013/10/11.jpg

I re-installed the whole product and it works fine again but that is a strange behaviour. I guess not intended. ;)

Thanks for support,

Cheers,

Good evening,

We are struggling to get this mod installed. We are running vB 4.2.2. We are using quite a few other vB mods from dbtech and have had no issues.

The files appear to be installed in the correct areas and the product is properly installed onto the forums.

We are not seeing any type of adminCP link like the rest of your other dbtech mods have. We are also unable to see it at all from a direct link on our forums.

I'm sure you'll need more information from me, so please ask.

Thank you in advance for any assistance we can get!

update: we were able to get it installed. However, it says we do not have access to the channel. I've looked everywhere for a way to adjust it and we just don't see it. There is not a permissions tab in the admincp, and when we access the direct link it says we cannot access it, even as admins.

very nice, we had our own custom coded twitch.tv integration but this is much cleaner! only thing we are missing now is a forum sidebar block to display currently online streamers. any way you can add this?

mitchelltrout
12-18-2013, 01:26 PM
after using this for a day it is much faster than our old twitch integration but missing a couple things that i think would make this mod even better. one is my above post about a sidebar block. it will increase the visibility of our streamers as a lot of the people using our forums do not bother with going through the menus to find what we offer. if its displayed right in their faces they will click and view much more often.

the second thing is to display currently online streams first in the list of streams. it would be better if you did not have to scroll through a bunch of offline streams to find one that is online. also it would be good to make online streams more identifiable. the little online/offline image isnt really that noticable and i have to lean in closer to my screen in order to see if a stream is online or not.

If you did upload everything correctly then going to www.yoursitename.com/twitch.php should bring the page up....if not then something went wrong in the upload...or you don't have twitch.php in the root dir.

DBTech - I've noticed a major issue, I tried to import the .xml file but it just causes the import system to HANG.

Any idea why this would be? I've talked with ozzy and tested his plugin/product and it installed immediately with no hassle.

(Running vb 4.2.2 fresh install on php5 all files and server info is up to date as of 2 days ago)

EDIT: Fixed, downloaded from dbtech website and it worked, but now i can't EDIT or DELETE the twitch links i added to it, it just takes me to a non existent page.

how can we space out the channel blocks.?
Right now they are align left, & so close to each other, there is a ton of room to the right, & so close on top of each other it is hard to tell if the owner info is below or above.

Or if can't space them out, maybe a border can be added (or both, space & border.?)
Or even just center them evenly within the space provided. :D

I just tried installing this version from Dragonbyte-tech.com and none of the links are showing. Ive double checked and they are all set to active as well as the permissions for twitchtv applied for the usergroups. I have uninstalled and tried to reinstall to no avail. Does the twitch/youtube video play using Flash or HTML5 player?

Benefits of HTML5 player:
Work on iPads, iPhones, and all current Android/mobile devices. Flash does not.

DragonByte Tech

YouTube uses HTML5 exclusively, whereas you have a setting to control whether you want Twitch to use Flash or HTML5.

Would it be possible to have like a function/custom page that shows the current top livestreams for a certain game?

You would probably need some kind of Twitch API for that and not sure if it exist with that function.

Edit:

I just checked there seems to be some API for it, if I read it correctly. Also in that API I saw something regarding teams.

I believe this allows you to show all channels live for a certain twitch team/group which would also be great to show.

Twitch.php is the old file from before the mod was renamed - you can safely delete it. You can verify this by looking in the latest zip download; you'll see there's no twitch.php file in there at all.

I realize that this mod is a little older and hasn't seen much activity here, but I've downloaded, installed and began some testing to see if our members like it, before considering any paid version.

I have everything setup on both Twitch and YouTube, as well as configured AdminCP settings for them.

They both work locally on Twitch and YouTube sites, indicating they're streaming video correctly, but when I click on either from our site, nothing appears at all for Twitch and YouTube throws shows "An Error Occurred .. Please try Later" when you click play button.

Has anyone successfully got either of these services working with this mod, or have YouTube and Twitch changed some API's or something else, that negates its use now?

Thanks... :)

Regards,
Doug

The reason why they are blank is that the channel does not have a background image for when it's offline (Twitch) and it has never been seen online (YouTube).

Can you please make sure the mod sees each of those channels online at least once, then try again? You can do this by bringing the streams online, then refreshing that page until you see both of them display as online in the mod.

Ok, added background image for Twitch... shows up fine off-line... still nothing showing through mod interface....

YouTube is streaming fine locally, but get an error every time I click on Play Button to view the stream.

Thanks anyway ..

I've tested this @ a live site (finalfantasyforums.net/livestream.php) and it's working perfectly fine there, so I'm not entirely sure what to tell you if I'm honest.

If you PM me with an FTP and AdminCP account I can see if I can figure out why it's not working for you, though.

Fillip

Thanks for taking the time to check it Filip ... :)

It's good to know that the mod is installed correctly...

I have gone live several times from both Twitch and YouTube to test, but it appears the mod never sees the connection.

Thanks again and we'll see what other options we can find...

Regards,
Doug

ps: attached a pic of YouTube live stream in real time, demonstrating that it's active. All settings are correct for vBulletin add-on including channel identifier. Also attached is pic of what mod shows on vBulletin client when clicked on, with stream saying "Stream Status: Seen live 0 time(s) Never Seen Online" So, perhaps YouTube has changed something in its protocol for delivery for live streams, which is why the vBulletin add-on is not seeing the stream?

BadgerDog
03-03-2017, 06:52 PM
Ok, I think I've figured this out... maybe... :D

It appears that at some point YouTube has changed the way you access a live stream channel...

The method this mod uses ends up pointing to a person's personal YouTube page and not the person's live channel video stream they're trying to feed to this vBulletin mod.

Therefore, the mod never sees the live streamed video at all... ;)

So, as a reality check, I'd like to hear from anyone currently using this mod successfully and if so, how did you instruct the mod to point to a live channel video stream ..

Thanks.. :)

Doug
