Verify your mysql servers hostname & set it properly in config.php
Also verify that you set your username & password properly in config.php

WEBDosser,
the Fields
MySQL Error :
Error Number :
are empty when I received there error.
Also mysql servers hostname are correct because the website works until i think some bot came along and did something to make it crash.. its very wierd.. after a few min the site was back up though.. happened twice a while ago

MySQL crashing or other wise not responding requires access to the SQL log/Server to find out why its actually not responding.
Before changing any settings in SQL's my.cnf, inspect your logs, if this is a dedicated server/VPS.

Then you need to talk to your host, as only they can tell you why, but as it being on a shared server, extra's you've added to the site, ie vbseo, thank hacks & such, this will most likely as well as traffic put you over limits your host most likely put in place so your forum based site doesnt use up all the server resources, as you probably share a over sold server.
My guess as to your host & your questions about SQL will be:
Them saying you need a VPS.
